The Sirens Song…

July 1, 2007 by Sumo

Gates of Dawn by Herbert James Draper

We dwell on a rocky island in the middle of the turbulent sea of life. We sing melodies so beautifully with paper and pen…that you cannot pass by and resist coming closer to hear that which we promise. Steer your hearts to our beautiful shores…or you will be compelled to gather near us with much longing in your soul.

Draw near…illustrious reader, lender of thy own chivalry, bring your thoughts to rest that you may hear our voices. No being can sail past these Sirens without listening to the song that flows from our sweet lips.

None that have listened…been enchanted and delighted with our voices…have not gone forward they themselves without being the better for it. The Sirens have foreknowledge of all that shall transpire on this our fruitful earth.

Our voices…by these means, and by clever, knavish and deceitful words, we persuade you readers to linger and lend us your ear in unity. We will lure you with our songs onto the sands of time…we are the beautiful creatures of the waters…and our irresistible voices will entice your hearts to our cause.

We Sirens are an interesting spectrum of female bloggers…blending together to create, enlighten, entertain and above all else…to energize the world around us. We’ll expound on politics, morals and random thoughts, culture critiques…and the occasional snark. We encourage all to come forward and participate in our scintillating daily thoughts. Your voice…dear reader, is a welcome salvage to those tossed about by the sea that is known as life. Sometimes our songs will be delivered to you with the soft flutter of the wings of a butterfly…other times you may be served up a plate of harsh reality…that is for you to decide.

No more illusions…just some conclusions…for we are the Sirens my friends…and we’ll keep on fighting - till the end.

Now, an introduction to our writers. They are diverse and yet they all have the wonderful trait of speaking their mind on a wide range of subjects. Many of these fine writers write at more than one blog, listed are their personal blogs:

I will read your blog with caution…because it was Delmar who once said “…them syreens did this to Pete. They loved him up and turned him into a horny toad.”

  2. Sumo on July 1st, 2007 1:55 am

Wasn’t that the best movie? Great on so many levels! I laughed at that scene until I nearly cried.

  3. betmo on July 1st, 2007 6:38 am

my favorite movie of all time!!

  4. Dusty on July 1st, 2007 9:12 am

OK..which movie are you guys talking about????

    I don’t get out much. :P

  5. bluegrrrrl on July 1st, 2007 9:18 am

    I am equally clueless, dusty!!!

but that’s a great quote…and wise of you to proceed with caution, Dude!

and a beautiful inaugural post, sumo! I can’t promise to deliver anything “with the soft flutter of the wings of a butterfly”…but I shall do my best to deliver something worth reading!

  6. bluegrrrrl on July 1st, 2007 9:22 am

OK, dusty, I googled it…apparently the movie is:

O Brother, Where Art Thou? (2000)
    can’t believe I missed it…

and I am about to find out whether I can include html in a comment (no preview button!)

  7. Dude on July 1st, 2007 9:29 am

The movie quoted was “O Brother, Where Art Thou?”. It was one of the Coen brothers (”Fargo”, “The Big Lebowski”)offerings from about 7 years ago. It was a great comedy set in the South in the ‘30…based on Homer’s epic poem “The Odyssey”. My favorite George Clooney role ever! :)

Dude, That was a great movie..I only saw it once. Perhaps I should view it again. My question is: Aren’t you already a horny toad? Or just a horny male? :P

    Blue..your html showed up m’dear :)

The music from the movie is incredible too. I got the soundtrack. The scene with the 3 sirens was really something.

  11. Peacechick Mary on July 1st, 2007 1:09 pm

The most fabulous bunch of bloggers in the blogsphere all singing the siren song. Wonderful!

  12. Sumo on July 1st, 2007 1:18 pm

  14. Diva Jood on July 1st, 2007 1:49 pm

Oh, Brother, Where Art Thou? has an amazing soundtrack, too!

We’re gonna have some fun. Yippie ki yi yo!

  15. Lily on July 1st, 2007 2:03 pm

“No more illusions-just some conclusions” Nice, Sumo!

That movie was great, soundtrack too. One of the best movies ever made in my ignorant opinion. The sepia color was interesting too.

My favorite character was his wife- with that string at the end. I know how she feels, although I dont drag my brood on a string. YET.Once though in town somebody said we’re like that scene-or, um, ducklings.

    Good luck, Sirens.

A beautiful opening,Sumo jsut the right tone for what promises to be a wonderful mix!
“go to sleep little baby~you and me, the devil makes three” goes the chorus as the sirens lure those poor boys to their respective fates.I promise not to turn any bodies, just minds ,perhaps!Got the DVD for my local pals who may need to see the film.

  21. Sumo on July 1st, 2007 6:13 pm

Sage…thank you very much. Now I’ll have to watch the movie again. My husband and I have watched about 3 times I think…it’s so awesome. The Sirens scene and afterward when Delmar wakes up…never gets old.

  22. thepoetryman on July 1st, 2007 8:12 pm

  24. thepoetryman on July 2nd, 2007 9:55 am

    Sirens,
    Call us forth,
Let us hear thy soulful voice
    Warble throughout the sky;
    Guide us out the wasteland
To a peace that shall not die.

  25. Sumo on July 2nd, 2007 3:53 pm

Thank you Mark…that was very nice indeed.
