| No, today’s conservative movement is not about wanting to DO anything or enact ideas or innovations of their own. And clearly it is not about eliminating regulations or freeing up the marketplace. Putting aside the rampant graft that – at most – involves a few thousand people… or the more lurid paranoid “manchurian” scenarios that might involve dozens, you are forced yet again to see that there is only one thing left. That boiling, searing hate. |
| Moreover, this kind of hatred cannot be refuted, for example, by showing that the liberal-moderate-progressive position turned out to be correct on this or that issue. Or on many issues. |
| No, it is human nature to deeply resent being proved wrong. |

I love David Brin. For an excellent read with alot of thought provoking theories on privacy, ecology, politics and science, pick up his novel, Earth. It’s hopeful and sad at the same time. Set in a reasonably near future, he describes it as “the best possible future he can imagine”. It’s killer!
I think the Edwards kind of brought some of this out this month- we really are living in a climate of Hatemongering. And it is fierce , the worst I remember in my lifetime. So good for you for starting a dialogue about it- and acknowleding it- Elizabeth Edwards tried to start a conversation about it and the Media shut her down…..the more we learn about how to fight this kind of Hate- and some of that fight involves sadly being resolved to a certain level of ignorance …..making peace with that is a feat in iteself….thanks for the great link….and blogging on something that matters and effects all of us so much…
I agree with Enigma. It’s a shame that the media dissed Elizabeth Edwards that way. Such morons!
