With Alberto on Top
August 27, 2007 by Lulu Maude
I’m feeling sorry for Alberto Gonzales’s mama, of all people.
She must have been so proud to see ‘Berto rise to the top of his profession, to be seen chumming it up with the President of the United States.
Now he’s served up, little cherry that he is, on the top of a big, fluffy White House sundae that spins the “unfair attacks” on him rendering him ineffective in carrying out the duties of his majestic office into so much tainted whipped cream.
Things have come to a pretty pass when the nefarious deeds of Gonzales have turned John Ashcroft into a sympathetic character, helpless in a hospital bed while Berto tried to get him to sign on to the further shredding of the Constitution.
There was ample reason for Dubya to choose him as the next AG: he knew that he could count on his henchman mentality to further erode constitutional principles. He would be that hungry, that gratified by the insider status that would accompany it. Besides, his initials would be right. AG the AG.
So to Alberto’s mama, should she still inhabit this earth, I say that I am sorry. Your son truly fell in with the wrong crowd.

Fell in with the wrong crowd? He wouldn’t of had any jobs if it wasnt’ for King George!
He was beholden to Georgie..sick as that sounds. Put his mentor above the law he did.
I still hold out hope that Congress will charge him with SOMETHING..anything at this point.
An example needs to be set for all of these people to know that they cannot ignore the Constitution any longer! They haven’t done anything to that stupid ass Tom DeLay…I’m waiting for the executioner for that piece of detritus!
I think you’ve hit on something here that the country as a whole doesn’t really want to talk about, LM. That would be how the power elite suck in the “underprivileged” & bend them to their own purposes when it’s convenient for them to do so. That’s not just a function of skin color, in my view, but of class as well.
It’s telling to me that ‘Berto made so much of the fact that’s he’s “lived the American Dream” (”my worst days as AG were better than my father’s best days as a migrant farm worker,” but the question is (for us all): “do you sell your soul & your conscience to do it?” Provided you have one in the 1st place.
The possession of those elusive qualities called “soul” & “conscience” have not a thing to do with the skin you’re born in, but for people of color, it’s always saddest to see them willingly & blatantly forfeit it for the illusion of power white culture promises. It just makes it that much harder to “win,” but in ‘Berto’s case, the sellout is pretty much obvious, & worse, complete.
I’d be interested in knowing more about this elusive, self-effacing man who apparently “disappeared” & became nothing more than a cypher under the influence. He HAS to have some brains & incredible fortitude. Believe me, no one gets through Harvard Law School without same. So, where’d it go?
Actually, I think Alberto Gonzales’ father’s worst days as a Migrant Worker were still better than anything Mr. Gonzales has experienced as Attorney General. His father at least had his dignity intact. His father at least had a conscience and believed in hard work.
Good one Diva…guess Daddy Gonzo wasn’t able to get son Berto to see the light when it came to the 10 commandments…or upholding the Constitution. Poor man…hope he isn’t aware of what is happening.
