What’s Worse than a Closeted Gay Republican? A Couple of Straight Ones.

September 6, 2007 by Lulu Maude

Oh dear oh dear oh dear… Now Larry Craig is looking into restoring his glorious Senate career, hoping to slime his way out of the potty-naughty he was headed into, and these estimable people on his right are attempting to guard that august legislative and deliberative body from his presence.

I am sure that Larry conducted himself admirably in the cloakroom. It’s all those plumbing fixtures that get him so excited.

I agree with the folks who acknowledge the fundamental silliness of the Minneapolis Potty Patrol. It’s a sorry use of public funds to install officers in toilets hoping to hear the proper toe-tapping rhythms. But a letter to the Editor of the NY Times acknowledges that these are signals that have been honed over a long period of time to communicate very specific agendas.

In the meantime, take a look at these noble guardians of Senate decency. They look uncomfortable just existing in their physical selves. Self-righteousness’ll do that to you every time.

They’re obscene. Mr. Slow-Country-Dance is quite cute by comparison. Look at that smile! There’s nothing like a lil’ hug to make a guy feel better.

it is ridiculous, isn’t it? it is naked republicanism: power over all else. he just can’t give it up, not for anything, and the others are just as bad. they’re just not caught. yet. we can hope.

had coffee a while back with an acquaintance, a teacher in our local public schools. has a family picture of the bushies ~ from babs to shrub ~ on her keychain. i expressed my concern and she assured me that while there have been “a few problems,” the bushes and the republicans in general are the party of values and she, as a devoutly religious individual, must support them.

that this college educated, assumably intelligent woman hasn’t gotten the message that the rethugs are purely the party of money and power is distressing. i wonder how many other “values voters” are out there missing the big lie of the rethugs, which is we only want your vote so we can keep making the ultra rich even richer.

Supporters of Sen. Larry Craig with the American Land Rights Association are calling for a boycott of the Minneapolis-Saint Paul Airport.

The Battle Ground (Washington) based association says airport police who arrested the senator in a men’s room sex sting are responsible for weakening private property rights in the West. Craig is a Republican member of the Senate Energy and Natural Resources Committee.

The American Land Rights Association, which has an office in Washington, D-C, advocates for the use of federal lands and against what it calls federal “land grabs.”

The association says the airport should apologize to Craig for what it calls “ambushing” the senator.

Craig is trying to withdraw his guilty plea in the Minnesota case, and if he can do that he would change his mind about resigning.

While I have NO interest in any form of restroom sex, I applaud and support Larry Craig’s effort to stay in the News, especially during the Bush/Petraeus dog and pony show about how the Surge in Iraq must be continued. If Craig’s sexual espades can head off the Iran invasion, I would nominate him for a medal of Freedom, even if I wouldn’t want to be in a restroom at the same time with him.

    Thanks for both your comments.

Larry’s situation does scream ‘reasonable doubt’, doesn’t it? I guess he didn’t have a law background before entering the Senate.

I don’t think that Larry would bother anybody in the restroom who wasn’t there for similar purposes, given the elaborate codification of potty frolics.

I do wish that the Larry-clowns of the world would learn something from their experiences (besides check the status of various bathrooms online before making airline reservations). I am sure that he the charge for further discriminatory legislation against gays and lesbians.

Who could trust the Bush-Petraeus sideshow, anyway? Why does anyone think that this misplacer of 100,000+ AKL-47s was chosen for anything but his willingness to inflate surge-grades at report card time?

That’s because we aren’t Sheeple. We know better than to be anything but suspicious of Petraeus’ sideshow. We know exactly what is going on…they just think and hope we are stupid enough not to. They bank on it, because they absolutely have to. They are the deluded ones…only they don’t know it. A rude awakening is coming their way soon…but they are staving it off as best as they can.

I am so confused. Are any of those moralists straight or do they all pretend to be moral choirboys.

  6. Lulu Maude on September 7th, 2007 7:51 am

Oh, I’m sure that many of them are straight. There are so many ways to be hypocritical. It’s just that gay and bi folks in the Republican Party know how vulnerable their places are. They very likely do not accept themselves. I know what it is to live with internalized hatred. I felt so much of it when I was young that I was sure I would be dead by 30. To live a life as a lesbian with a feeling of self worth seemed a contradiction in terms.

Part of me really feels for Larry Craig. He’s probably been at war with these feelings all his life. He’s probably known on some level how tenuous his hold on the boy’s club would ultimately be. A relationship was out of the question; there was only this grab and run option.

It takes great nerve to be gay. Larry doesn’t have it. He just has the need.

I think this is a classic example of “catch me” behavior, living a lie for so long, and wanting to be out..not having the nerve to do so. Shows how far we as a nation need to go in equal rights for all~ a long way.
