George W. Bush and Charles Manson: Kindred Spirits?

This is a little scary, so we advise those with sensitive constitutions to think twice before reading it, BUT, has it ever occurred to anyone that George Wasted Bush and Charles Manson have a lot in common? No, I’m not kidding. When you think about it there really are a number of disturbing similarities.

First and foremost both are sociopaths or psychopaths. Deny it all you like, but both Bush and Manson have warped views of the world and of themselves, which drive them to kill others for bizarre, arcane purposes. With Charles Manson, it was the belief that he could start an apocalyptic race war by killing upper class white people. The idea being that if Manson and his spaced out family could murder these people, paint messages on the walls in the victims’ own blood, and somehow blame the killings on Black America, that a bloody race war would erupt between Blacks and Whites. Of course Manson and his family would–in their warped theology–be living in a hole in the desert, waiting for the war to end so that Manson could emerge as some kind of latter day Savior with a prepackaged following of devout followers–that despite the fact that Manson seldom had the courage to commit murder himself. Rather he sent members of his cult, the so called Manson Family, into affluent white neighborhoods to spread terror for him. Moreover, Manson used the Catholic Bible and the Beatles WHITE ALBUM as the inspiration to commit these murders, claiming that the Bible and the Beatles were sending him messages. And to make the situation even more disturbing Manson genuinely began to think of himself as a kind of Messianic figure, a shadowy version of Jesus Christ.

Now shall we look at George Wasted Bush? Granted, Bush comes from a spoiled, affluent white family, but by the same token he is a sociopath or a psychopath and like Mister Manson, our deranged president truly enjoys the blood, pain, and suffering of others. This after all is a president who supports the idea of torture as moral and ethical tool in America’s foreign policy. This after all is the same president, who, like Charles Manson, believes that God has selected him for a higher purpose. Indeed, it would not be stretching the truth AT ALL to suggest that George Wasted Bush believes himself to be divine. Bush may not find the Beatles WHITE ALBUM inspirational, but he almost certainly receives his inspiration from right wing pastors such as Franklin Graham and they have infused him with an apocalyptic view of the world. Perhaps George W. Bush isn’t the most devout of Millenialists, but he is clearly supported by right wing ideologues who believe that acts of human violence, done in the name of Jesus Christ, can hasten the process and bring about the apocalypse on their time instead of God’s time. Indeed, the only thing missing is a hole in the desert, but when you think about it there ARE underground bunkers designed specifically to protect the American leadership and military leaders–including our present Demander and Thief, so perhaps, just perhaps that isn’t stretching things as far as one might think! And, like Manson, George Wasted Bush is perfectly content to sit in the comfort of the Oval office, or in his hideout down in Crawford, Texas, while others do the killing, suffering, and bleeding for him. Nor is the Iraqi war the only time during which George Wasted Bush enjoyed death. Let us remember the days when he served as the governor of Texas and appeared to get off on the executions of death row inmates. Does anyone remember the way in which he ridiculed Karla Fay Tucker. Is there anyone out there who seriously believes that George Wasted Bush was NOT revealing a basic contempt for human life when he engaged in that vaudeville act? Or perhaps he was just rehearsing for that classic comedy routine about the lost weapons of mass destruction. Yes, I think it is safe to say that BOTH George Wasted Bush, AND Charlie Manson not only had a basic disrespect for human life–they both got off on death in general–especially violent, gruesome forms of death.

Nor do the similarities end there. Charles Manson was a recreational drug user. George Wasted Bush was a cocaine addict/chronic alcoholic turned dry drunk. The only difference is that Charles Manson really didn’t care one way or the other what people thought about his recreational drug use. Bush, on the other hand, was a spoiled little brat with dreams of glory, who deliberately kept his addictions to drug and alcohol carefully concealed for political purposes. So of course a citation for driving under the influence was concealed, and of course his blue blooded family served as the proverbial enablers by concealing his addiction and by pulling his proverbial chestnuts out of the fire whenever he ran into trouble–political, financial, or otherwise. In other words, this is one area in which George Wasted Bush reveals himself as WORSE than Charles Manson by adding the bass element of hypocrisy to his recreational drug abuse/addiction.

Shall we talk about their shared contempt for women? Charles Manson was a classic exploiter of women. He used his considerable powers of persuasion not only to attract followers, but to seduce the young women in his murderous cult. As far as Manson was concerned, young women were little more than sex objects. By the same token, George Wasted Bush has adopted the fundamentalist belief that women are little more than breeders. This, of course, has been revealed in his Administration’s repeated attempts to undermine women’s rights. Whether it’s a young woman’s right to participate in sporting events, a right to obtain safe and legal contraception, or the right to exercise control of her own body, George Wasted Bush has proposed policies which demote women to little more than breeders for reactionary pseudo Christians. George Wasted Bush may not be sleeping with his female followers (although there are online rumors about George and Secretary of State Rice) but he certainly has little respect for women unless they obey his orders to the very letter. Some might argue that is not respect at all, but exploitation.

Returning to the Manson fantasy of “Helter Skelter,” the race war between Blacks and Whites. There is little doubt that Charles Manson was a racist. He clearly believed that blacks were inferior. The Manson Family, after all, was exclusively white, and Manson was perfectly willing–in his demented world view–to blame blacks for the murder of Sharon Tate and the LaBiancas etc. The last I knew that was decidedly racist.

Now shall we look at Bush and his right wing buddies? These people have been trying for decades to undermine every advance in the area of civil liberties that was gained during the 1960s and the 1970s. One moment they claim to be a big tent party. The next they claim that the gaps between blacks and whites has been closed (you just have to wonder what data they’re looking at). And then they turn around and promote policies that are destructive to poor people in general. That isn’t to say that all minorities are poor, that clearly is not the case, but let’s face the facts. The economic policies in this country are specifically aimed at lower class people in the hope that a war on poverty can be transformed into a genocidal war on the poor Let’s face it. Liberals aren’t responsible for the myth of the black welfare queen or for the equally obnoxious rhetoric about poor minorities driving expensive cars. They were promoted by the Reagan administration and the degree to which we have accepted this kind of right wing bullshit as gospel truth speaks volumes to the low character of the right wingers with whom it originated. George Wasted Bush may not view black people as a tool to trigger Armageddon, but he and his fellow right wingers clearly have a basic contempt for anyone who was not born white, rich, and over-privileged.

Yes, the similarities between George Wasted Bush and Charles Manson are startling in the extreme. And I think it’s time that we realized it, because I strongly suspect that the ultimate goal of the Bush Administration goes a lot further than spinning those old 33 LPs of the Beatles WHITE ALBUM.
