Is Iran the new Iraq?
November 2, 2007 by Dusty
If you listen to Cheney, Bush and Rice it certainly is. But bear in mind my dear reader..the three Musketeers also said many of the same general things about Iraq in the run-up to that war.In his 2003 State of the Union speech, Bush stated he could not wait for Iraq to become an imminent threat. Recently, Bush also said about Iran; “I believe that the Iranian — if Iran had a nuclear weapon, it would be a dangerous threat to world peace. It would — this is — we got a leader in Iran who has announced that he wants to destroy Israel. So I told people that if you’re interested in avoiding World War III, it seems like you ought to be interested in preventing them from having knowledge necessary to make a nuclear weapon. And I take this very — I take the threat of Iran with a nuclear weapon very seriously.” (verbatim from King George himself..stammers and stutters left in.)
The Big Dick Cheney, not to be out done by his boss, has proposed launching airstrikes at suspected training camps in Iran run by the Quds force, a special unit of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, according to two U.S. officials who are involved in Iran policy. Some choice quotes from the Big Dick;
“The Iranian regime needs to know that if it stays on its present course, the international community is prepared to impose meaningful consequences,” Cheney said in a speech to the pro-Israel lobbying group AIPAC:“For our part, the United States is keeping all options on the table,” he said. “We will not allow Iran to have a nuclear weapon.”
The latest to step into the ring is Dr Rice, aka Condi. Her recent statement that “the policies of Iran constitute perhaps the single greatest challenge to American security interests in the Middle East and around the world” is vague enough but strong enough to be construed as beating the war drums for going after Iran as well.
We all remember the threats, phony references and outright lies BushCo made in the run-up to invading Iraq. I do not have to rehash them here for you. Most have proven to have been untrue my dear reader. This time around however, the Three Musketeers are not making the same mistakes twice. They seem to prefer vague, general references to what a big “meany” the country of Iran is, and how they want to smash the U.S. and blow Israel off the world map. The key word in all their rhetoric is…Israel…methinks.
Israel is our ally, our best buddy in the Middle East. We continue to provide Israel with every known weapon we manufacture and they probably buy some from other countries as well. Israel also has nuclear weapons. It’s interesting how they are allowed to have nukes in the middle east, but not Iran..but I digress. Israel is the favored child whom we will protect with the full-force of Americas military if need be, make no doubt about it. Israel is without a doubt, the biggest excuse to invade Iran when it’s all said and done.
So it was interesting to me to read this article at ConsortiumNews recently. It’s very enlightening and I suggest you peruse it when you are able; the author is Ray McGovern the former CIA analyst. But if you don’t, let me give you some of the highlights..or as I think of them..lowlights of the write up. The Israeli ambassador to the U.S., Sallai Meridor, let the cat out of the bag while speaking at the American Jewish Committee luncheon on Oct. 22. Heavy on the chutzpah, he served gratuitous notice on Washington that effectively countering Iran’s nuclear ambitions will take a “united United States in this matter,” lest the Iranians conclude, “come January ‘09, they have it their own way.”
Meridor stressed that “very little time” remained to keep Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons.
Well that is a load of hooey my dear reader..its so full of bs that Ambassador Meridor (it rhymes) could only say it AND get away with it whilst talking to a room full of Israeli supporters. Similarly, Cheney and Bush save their biggest bullshit and bravado statements for military groups. No one with two brain cells to rub together believes that Iran will have fully functional nukes anytime soon. As the Consortium article points out, “no serious observer expects Iran to obtain a nuclear weapon much sooner than five years from now.”
The article also goes on to say that the U.S. warmongers have been screaming about Iran getting nukes since 1995 and the Intel community has tried very hard to make it so for them, but to no avail. The following is an irony-rich passage culled from the Consortium article:
Never mind that there is no evidence that the Iranian nuclear program is any more weapons-related than the one Cheney and Donald Rumsfeld persuaded President Gerald Ford to approve in 1976 for Westinghouse and General Electric to install for the Shah (price tag $6.4 billion).
With 200-300 nuclear weapons in its arsenal, the Israelis enjoy a nuclear monopoly in the Middle East. They mean to keep that monopoly and are pressing for the U.S. to obliterate Iran’s fledgling nuclear program.
Don’t you just love how the big Dick and King George have such short memories? Too bad for them that some journalist’s do not. As far as protecting the folks in Israel, I can only say this; you bozos are on your own. You got the heavy artillery and you know how to use it..do NOT expect the U.S. to bail your ass out of another middle eastern pissing contest.
Unless of course, Cheney, Bush and Rice manage somehow to start their own pissing contest with Iran prior to the end of their time in office..then all bets are off the table, and we all better pray to whatever God we believe in to save our collective asses and those of every person living in the Middle East. Because we can not let a 2005 quote from the Big Dick be ignored when speaking of war with Iran; “Given the fact that Iran has a stated policy that their objective is the destruction of Israel, the Israelis might decide to act first, and let the rest of the world worry about cleaning up the diplomatic mess afterwards.”
Nuclear fallout is such a messy, destructive thing to have floating around the atmosphere. Just ask the folks that live in the Ukraine and Belarus about Russia’s long dead but still seeping invisible death– the Chernobyl nuclear power plant.
