I got this in an e-mail from a good friend. This sounds like a very good idea.

Whatever your stance on the war…….

When you are making out your Yuletide / Holiday / Christmas / Chanukah / Kwanzaa / Thanksgiving / Seasonal card list this year,

Consider including one or more to the following:

A Recovering American soldier
C/O Walter Reed Army Medical Center
6900 Georgia Avenue, NW
Washington,D.C. 20307-5001

Add a picture of something you are thankful or grateful for.

This is a great idea. However, we should not forget our non-recovering soldiers either: http://indefatigable-indolence.org/blog1/2007/03/23/the-shafting-of-our-career-soldiers/

I read that story when it first came out in The Nation, Big Fella. There are far too many of those stories.

Thanks for reposting this simple message.

tes, the Armed Forces tend to not just screw National Guard and Army reservists, they are equal opportunity and screw the career soldier too. And I can attest, after my nine year battle to get benefits as Vietnam Veteran, that they screw those that served as well.

Social Security screws the public. It seems that if you apply for benefits from the government, they do their best not to pay you. It is different than the judicial system where you are assumed innocent until proven guilty, (unless you’re Black, Hispanic, Hmong, Somali, poor or –add your color, minority, sexual orientation here—————>_______________.

an excellent idea duly noted. thanks for the tip.

Come on - this is a stupid idea.
If I had my legs blown off, the last thing I’d want is for a stranger with legs to send me a Christmas card.

It’s like saying “Cheer up Rambo, your career is over, your friends are dead and your young life is in ruins, but Christmas is here and it won’t stop me feeling better about myself by wasting $1 on this shit card”.

Why not send cash to a charity or something? Or simply vote for the other guy.

I agree with Richard. This is an insult and a waste of time.

That’s it. Richard Owen is off my Christmas card list.

You are entitled to your feelings and they are duly noted, but I am a disabled Veteran. I don’t mind hearing from complete strangers that want to take the time and spend a dollar to send a card or greeting. I

    Simply a difference of opinion.

    Peace to all

Richard, I think you have it ass-backwards. BushCo is the one that gives the wounded soldiers a hearty fuck you, while the citizens have provided tvs, pool tables and the like for those at Walter Reed.

It takes roughly 6 months for a wounded soldier to get his first paycheck, after he has been hospitalized..gee, in my book thats a huge fuck you.

I find it interesting that the only two negative comments are from folks that wish to remain anonymous..sort of like trolls ya know? :P

“Why not send cash to a charity or something? Or simply vote for the other guy.”

Why not do all of the above, and also send cards and letters, and pay a visit to a military or VA hospital in your locality.

It is all good, what is important is to let our military, present and past, know that we appreciate their sacrifices for us and they are not forgotten.
