Haven't personally seen any, but I would avoid businesses with "American owned" signs the same way I avoid businesses that put that little Christian "fish" sign on their advertising. They do it to say "We're the 'right' kind of people, not like those 'other' people." Prejudiced jerkwads turn me off and don't get my dollars when I can help it.

In response to the excellent dialogue and discussion sent forth by Ivan Fail, I must say thank you for explaining another viewpoint without fear, anger or hatred directed towards me, the author of the article, "American Owned". Many times, people who disagree tend to cast stones and berate those with an varying opinion. I appreciate good dialogue.

You make good points. All of them could be true and probably are to your experience. But I must mention that there are white American citizens that are business owners that have "...unsanitary conditions and malfunctioning and/or non functioning
toilets, microwaves and tvs..." in their motel properties. These traits are not only found in ,motels that are operated or owned by "foreign" owners.

And my point, if taken correctly, identifies the fact that just because a person has dark skin, speaks English with an accent, cooks ethnic food or is MidEastern does not automatically make them not be an American citizen.

People should not have to prove they are citizens in this country unless they do something wrong or illegal and come under scrutiny by the authorities. You mention the post 9/11 world and what it has caused as far as this scrutiny is concerned. Am I to believe that anyone who is dark skinned and of midEastern descent as a possible enemy based solely on their appearance or their dialect or accent? And what difference does it make if an owner of a motel is a Muslim? Are all Muslim people enemies of the United States of America? If I stood two men in front of you and one was a caucasion but practised Islam and the other had dark skin, was from India, spoke with an accent but practised Catholicism would you be on guard based on what you see and assume? What if the same two stood before you and the dark skinned man was an Ameriican citizen and the other a legal alien from a European country where the people have white skin?

I ask that you be aware of discrimination, based solely on the idea that all people who are not white, speak English with an accent and carry on ethnic and cultural ways of life, are not Americans and therefore are terrorists.

Lastly, I call your attention to the former United States Army Chaplin, James Yee, who is a third generation American born citizen of Chinese descent. The US Army put him in prison as a spy based on his religion and ethnic background. To make assumptions based on anything besides facts is wrong. If a motel is dirty, don't stay there, but also don't believe the "white" business man that knows nothing of his competition except that they have dark skin. Don't live in a world that accuses a man of wrong based on anything but fact.

My veteran flight attendant daughter has flown into and out of India many times over the past 20 years. She loves the common people, the culture and the cuisine there but she is also quite aware of the significant and sinister criminal element there as well.

During my second career as an over the road trucker in the U.S and Canada I stayed in many foreign operated -, and probably owned motels. Most of those were staffed -, and probably owned by people whose cuisine and culture appeared to be Indian or "Mid eastern".
.
The fact that I'm "color blind and culture neutral" didn't prevent me from being
angered by the unsanitary conditions and malfunctioning and/or non functioning
toilets, microwaves and tvs in many of these motels. And the post 911 reality of foreign Militants using motels as "espionage listening posts" where they can safely, effectively and covertly spy on, photograph and identify guests, record their conversations and steal their identities for identity thieves, kidnappers, sex slave procurers and terrorists has made me far less trusting and less patronizing of Muslim staffed and owned Motels. I understand that is unfair and unkind to the many decent, peaceful and honorable "Indian etc." staffers and/or of Motel owners -, but it is an unfortunate "post 911 fact of life". And that is a tragedy for us all..

But I did not bomb the USS Cole or destroy the Twin Towers. And like the vast majority of foreign owners and staff of Motels in America, I wasn't affilliated with those who did. And most of us didn't invent indentity theft via recording names and addresses, stealing credit card numbers and pins, check account numbers and routing numbers from motel guests and/or kidnapping and prostitution to finance terrorism either. But we are all paying for it.

Reminds me of the negative campaigns currently being waged by both parties against their fellow party members who are running for the same office of El Presidente.

Exaggerated nationalism is part of the 14 points of Fascism.

Let's say I come into a town, and I have a choice of staying down at Patel's place (which is usually reasonably clean and reasonable cozy,) or I can spend my money at a good old 'Murican Hilton hotel (and therefore help to support that useless tripe Paris.) Where do you think my money would be better spent?

"American owned" doesn't look so good now, does it?
