the heart of the matter

good lord- i can’t really take the news these days. i don’t even take in the msm news- and i can tell what’s going on from the blogs. and it cuts me up. i think most of us are feeling pretty low these days and i think don henley pretty much gets to ‘the heart of the matter’ in the lyrics to the song. we are the heart of america and that heart is broken. and we don’t know if we can forgive ourselves for what has happened. ‘but i think it’s about forgiveness- even if you don’t love me anymore.’ the heart of the matter is we have had our eyes opened to what has been going on here behind the scenes for decades. the corporates and the old money in back room wheelin’ and dealin’ making policies that effect millions to benefit the few. wars started; economies ruined; lives ended. the difference is- we can’t hide from it anymore. it’s everywhere- oozing out of the cracks in the foundations that were built years ago but never maintained. what we are living in is the end of an empire. the problem is- the very planet we stand on is in peril and we don’t have the luxury of a rebound in a few decades. and we don’t understand how this could happen. and so we blame. we all know who is responsible and no accountability has been forthcoming. we feel that america- our love, our home- has betrayed us. we have betrayed her. and we don’t understand.

so- what do we do? we forgive ourselves. we forgive ourselves for our pasts and we look to the future. we don’t have control over what has happened- or how other people live their lives. we do control our own fates. we go down fighting. we fight for our families and loved ones and we fight so the people whose greed and lust for power and amorality- so they don’t win. they can take our homes and our cars. they can take our jobs and our food. they can detain us indefinitely without charge- but they can’t take us. our essence. our being. because we have what they don’t- souls- that hold compassion for our fellow man- love of life and the people on this planet. we have what they only pretend to have. we feel and live and love. and they can’t take that from us.

that’s reason enough to keep on fighting. that’s reason enough to hope. that’s really what it boils down to- the heart of the matter.

    Gee Betmo!
They can never get me down or break me. I am disappointed this came to fruition on our guard but I have to laugh even my own sons think I’m crazy and one going back to Iraq thinks the chief warmongering idiot is great.
Some people will never wake up. Anyway I’m not going anywhere. I will be the last man standing and a smile on my face. His ignorance and audacity is absolutely unbelievabble. The crap he can say and with a straght face. I wrote today about him telling the Saudi’s they were going to ruin our spending and economy if they didn’t pump more oil. He friggen did it. There is no end to his crap. He sickens me but I will not stop fighting!

i have been working on a piece about Norse mythology,Asgard and the end of the world.Sounds pretty much like what you wrote~choose courage and find victory in death ,find that courage never loses.

I don’t know how since the country is full of apathy but if we don’t fight the cretians we will never be free.

Hey, Larry, I think the cretins are hiding inside us. I think it’s to do with human nature. I think we are badly flawed. We carry within us the seeds of our own destruction. We now have the weapons to bring about our own destruction. It’s just a matter of time!

If that’s how we are, can we be blamed?
