Jason Leopold no longer at TruthOut..
February 19, 2008 by Dusty
TO sent out a very terse email this afternoon stating simply that he no longer worked for them and they wished him the best. I of course sprang into action since I am a fan of Leopold’s work from his early days. I am well aware of the history behind the genius, but I still stand with him and his investigative reporting.
Just got a response to my email from Jason. He is working on getting out his own online political magazine entitled: BackgroundBriefing.org(not up yet). He hopes to premiere it sometime in Mid-March. I will of course notify folks when it is up and running. Jason has done some fantastic work on numerous fronts, so I look forward to his new endeavor.

This guy is a hack. His journalistic methods and his reporting is Fox News-esk. We had major egg on our face from this clown and had to retract several of his bogus, made for TV, fictional stories. Jason Leopold is a jouralist wannabe. Mark Ash lacks merit and insight, to hold his reporters accountable for lying. Pity. Even with Leopold leaving, we’ll never use Truthout as a source for news.
Everyone is entitled to their opinion of Mr. Leopold JD. He has broken several important stories, he has an LA Times bestseller and frankly no one is perfect. The Alternative media gets knocked for their efforts and methods..but when they break a story or bring an important issue to the forefront everyone sings their praises.
I also ran with the Rove story that has caused TO untold amounts of grief. As for whether Leopold got it wrong regarding the Rove indictment, we will never really know will we? So much of that case is shrouded in secrecy its pathetic.
Thank you for your ‘two cents’

I’m in a networked journalism class at the University of Denver, and we use a blogspot blog as a forum for discussing events, as well as a posting board for assignments and such. A few days ago we were instructed to read stories about Leopold. That’s all the post was — an instruction to read articles, and links to them.
Shortly after the posting Leopold emailed our professor accusing her of libel. Check out the examples at networkedjournalism.blogspot.com, Here
Hello Jason,
The articles you were instructed to read were of course all negative and lacking, in some respects, a few of the finer points of journalism in my humble point of view.
I am left to wonder why Mr. Leopold went off on your professor so hard. I would also like to ask you if you read any of Mr. Leopold’s rebuttals on those two articles..just to gain a sense of both sides of ‘that’ coin.
Dusty,
First I’d like to say that I wish Leopold was right. I wish his stories all panned out to be 100% true. The articles were indeed all negative, but the class lesson was about mistakes in journalism, not fair treatment of reporters.
I too wonder why Leopold was so upset, I feel it wasn’t warranted. I have indeed spent some time in the past couple days trying to inform myself more of Leopold’s side of the story. The more I read, the more plausibility his side of it gains, but I remain unconvinced.
Good evening Jason,
I gathered after noticing the subjects that it was about mistakes and cheating. I was familiar with all three subjects.
I do think Mr. Leopold could of been sloppy, but I do not believe he ardently went out of his way to mislead or outright fabricate ala Jayson Blair, who did it in roughly half of his stories for the NYT.
Glass on the other hand..was a completely strange bird that I still don’t fully comprehend wtf he thought he was pulling.
Putting Leopold in the company of both of these men was, in my view, wrong. But there were lessons to be learned from Leopold’s mistakes for students of journalism.
Hi all, i am a documentary filmmaker from the UK. I am trying to get in touch with Jason Leopold. Can anyone pass me some email contact for him? Also in which US town does he live. Thanks a lot
