Hillary, Can You Say, “Conflict?”

Hillary, Can You Say, “Conflict?”

April 4th, 2008  |  by Jolly Roger | Published in 08 Elections  |  3 Comments

The other day, we noted that “Homeowner’s Best Friend” Hillary Clinton has on her staff a Board member from one of the nation’s most predatory subprime lenders. This is saddening to be sure, but I doubt anyone is very surprised by it.

Today, we learn about another little conflict of interest in Team Hillary. It would seem that “The Worker’s Best Friend” has a strategy guru who is working hard down south to implement one of those “free” trade agreements that Hillary finds so abhorrent (in 2007-08, at least. 1993 was another story, wasn’t it?)

I do not hate Hillary Clinton. I do not know if I know her for sure, but what I do know has caused me reservations. She was for Chimpy’s bloodbath before she was against it, and she was for NAFTA before she was against it, and she has people working for her who have a proven track record of being 100% against the ability of the common schmuck to have a decent life in America. Since she’s been murky enough to keep me from knowing her too well, is it OK for me to judge her by the company she keeps?

I think it is. I pretty much judged Chimpy that way, long before the year 2000. And what I conclude from Hillary’s circle is that a lot of what she says she’d do, she simply will not do. Mark Penn isn’t down in Colombia advertising himself as someone who won’t be able to dissuade Hillary once she’s in office. If he was, why would anyone pay for his influence?

The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Mark Penn, the controversial chief strategist for Hillary Clinton’s campaign, met with the Colombian ambassador to the U.S. on Monday to discuss a bilateral free-trade agreement between the two countries. The snag? Clinton opposes the deal.

The Journal says, however, that Penn was at the meeting not in his capacity as a Clinton advisor but as chief executive of Burson-Marsteller Worldwide, a communications and lobbying firm. The firm, the WSJ reports, signed a one-year, $300,000 deal in March 2007 under which it represents Colombia on the trade deal and anti-drug-trafficking initiatives. A Clinton spokesman, Howard Wolfson, told the WSJ by e-mail that “Mark was not there on behalf of the campaign … Sen. Clinton’s opposition to the trade deal with Colombia is clear.”

And yet, HER guy is down in Colombia, working (supposedly) AGAINST her wishes. Class, what do we do with employees who openly work for “the competition?”

I think Hill picked some piss poor people to surround herself with right off the bat, and I don’t think she has an inkling of how much real damage they’ve done to her credibility, likability, and chances for winning the Presidential nomination.

    Good evening, Jrog.

I think your sense of smell is spot on. This is completely outrageous, and I do kinda hope that it’s chased around by the blue-bloodhounds for as long as the Rev. Wright story, but I sure would prefer the spotlight stay on McCain’t. He’s on fairly free cruise control right now, with nothing but ass-kissing time to himself.

Good morning Trog. I couldn’t agree more. Instead of taking verbal potshots at each other liberals should be uniting behind a single candidate and going after McCain. I too hope this story will have a lasting effect because it’s just another example of Hilary saying one thing and doing another.

Hillary seems to think if she can’t have the office of President, it should go to Weathervane McCain. Such bullshit.

Hillary’s handlers are bungling her campaign..and frankly she is getting what she deserves for hiring such smarmy idiots.

All our energies SHOULD be concentrated on McCain..instead its infighting..which surely can’t be good.
