TELL THEM TO FIGHT THEIR OWN BATTLES

April 8, 2008 by Sweet Pea

Once again the talking dicks at FOX News have attempted to rewrite the news, essentially pulling facts out of their asses to support the Republicans’ delusional view of the war and the world in general. On the night of April 7th the talking dicks not only claimed that the recent skirmishes in Iraq had been successfully handled, they also claimed that the Iraqi forces had performed well, finally pulling their weight in battle. But in a recent news article titled “CAN IRAQ’S SOLDIERS FIGHT,” a very different and more realistic appraisal of the Iraqis’ fighting capabilities have been revealed Essentially, more fair and balanced articles tell “…. a grim tale and the information in them is worse yet. Stephen Farrell and James Glanz of the New York Times estimate that at least 1,000 Iraqi soldiers and policemen, or more than 4% of the force sent into Basra, “abandoned their posts” during the fighting, including “dozens of officers” and “at least two senior field commanders.”I’m sorry, but that does not sound like the stunning victory that FOX News tried to present in its right wing propaganda. Rather, it sounds like another resounding failure on the part of our supposedly conquered puppet state. I mean really, who are we kidding here? The Iraqis have become so accustomed to having us fight their battles for them that they couldn’t fight their way out of a paper bag, much less tackle an insurgency. FOX News admitted as much when it bragged about the fact that the U.S. had to call out the jets to target certain targets. FOX of course put the right wing spin on this inconvenient little fact, claiming it was a sign that we were in control, but when viewed from another angle one must ask the question: “If the Iraqis are doing so well, why do they need so much help from American air power?

Now there is a way to handle the situation. It’s been discussed before. The Republicans call it cutting and running. I prefer to think of it as demanding that the Iraqis stand up on their own two feet and fight their own battles. In fact, if I were president I would do the following. I would tell the Iraqis: Okay boys, here’s the deal–you’ve got until such and such a date to get your act together. And to prove we mean business we’re pulling out X number of our troops on such and such a date.”

And then I would do it, essentially telling the Iraqis that they have to get their act together.

Amazing how FOX can take a fact which plays against their world view and completely overlook or misinterpret it. They can’t even screw up without screwing up.

That’s not all FOX screwed up. Yesterday they made it sound as if Al Sadr were beaten, that his influence was ended. Today we learned this:

BAGHDAD - Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr threatened Tuesday to lift a seven-month freeze on his militia if the Iraqi government does not halt attacks on his followers or set a timetable for a U.S. withdrawal.

Faux Noise is nothing but a mouthpiece for the Bush administration..but we all know that. Fox parrots the administration and people that watch them regularly buy it hook line and sinker.

That is why the War in Iraq has taken a backseat I think..the avg Joe and Jill think its all going well..the MSM reports very little about it but spend the bulk of their time telling us about obama’s preacher and Hillary’s bullshit about being under fire in Bosnia. Neither of which have a damn thing to do with their policies and politics.

Standing up to the Iraqi government wouldn’t be in BushCo’s best interest..so they don’t…they just lie and paint as rosy a picture as possible..with the help of the MSM and Fox specifically.

McClatchy is the only news group that doesn’t sugar coat the truth. I love those guys. Thanks for posting that link Kelli!
