Stop-Loss
April 13, 2008 by Diva Jood
In a campaign speech in 2004, former presidential candidate John Kerry described stop-loss as a “backdoor draft.” The new film, Stop-Loss, addresses this policy (the involuntary extension of a service member’s enlistment contract beyond the normal end of their term of service). The film is not anti-war; it is pro-soldier. This is an important distinction, because by not being an anti-war film, it avoids falling into the trap of polemics. It lets the viewer ask questions, to search within, and to make real choices after.
