making good mondays- carol gee- has a post up on childhood poverty. i find it interesting- but not surprising- that the south dominates the childhood poverty rates. it is appalling to me with my tax rate that new york is also in that category.

Well, California is not far behind! This is another obscenity of bad government. While we pour money into an illegal war, children are left to fall between the cracks of poverty.

some days it feels like i have no idea which end is up. it is almost like i woke up to find myself here- in this country; in this life- and it is surreal. the boomer generation- what would have been my parents if they had been younger- or me had i been older- has lived their lives and their generation’s politicians and local governments have led us all down the garden path. and now, the younger folks have inherited a house that isn’t even a fixer upper- it’s a tear the shit down and build a new one. or in the case of many americans emigrating- find a different one. it feels like everything is crumbling down around us now- and prioritizing the urgent from the important is an increasingly daunting task. our tax money is going somewhere- my bet is all of those trillions and trillions of dollars are leaving our country and going into the coffers of folks who don’t really need it. and rome burns while caesar cheney fiddles.
