Primary Day in Oregon

Primary Day in Oregon

May 20th, 2008  |  by Fran | Published in 08 Elections

This has been a hellish primary. The candidate the pundits and media dubbed the winner before anyone had ever voted, has been behind from the start. An unlikely underdog has emerged as a winner, not just in the political sense of tallies and exit polls and predictions. Despite so many hurdles, and game playing and politics at it’s worst- as the underbelly of trying to win at any cost- all those things fell aside as the nation saw through the smoke & mirrors, and realized there is a candidate who genuinely cares. Someone chose Civil Rights as his field of legal expertise. Who taught Constitutional law. A candidate who says, he will speak with any leader of any country.
The same old sick regime we have endured for 8 long years, would have us think that talking with ” enemies”, is wrong, bad, and a sign of inexperience. Diplomacy not allowed. We must perpetuate in having enemies, and divisions, and closed doors, worse, locked prison doors.

Yet admidst all this chaos and doom and gloom, it seems that We the People, are choosing to rise above all that.

They are not baffled or distracted by the hype, and lies and deceptions.

This country is in dire need of a different direction, and actual leadership.

Freedom from oppression, racism, sexism, media mind control, rogue regimes that violate the constitution, and break both the internal and international laws, and the laws of humanity, and common sense.
I heard 2 politicians debate- one candidate said “I am here to win”, the other candidate said “I want to serve”.
It does us all good to heal as a country, by questioning all those “isms” that may lurk in our hearts & minds & we did not even realize they were there. If enough people rise above it, we can begin to heal and get off the path of destruction.

Change is not just a campaign jingle or buzzword, it is what we must do to save ourselves.

Come down off your throne~ somebody must change
somebody holds the key

*PS: Oregon Voters: If you still have your ballot in your possession, it is too late to mail it. You must hand deliver it to the Elections boxes by 8 pm Pacific.

Footnote: After a few days of record breaking high temperatures 90+, it is raining hard in Western Oregon this morning. It will not effect the polls, as we have had the ability to vote by mail for the last 3 weeks.
Someone had mentioned that this is a very exciting presidential election, historically, to have both a female and black candidate as our choices. Interestingly, or ironically, for some people that alone is an issue, as they grapple not with the question of which candidate offers the best platform, or in the 21st century, is the least corrupt, but if they can fathom having either a Woman or Person of Color in the top position of Government.
These choices have made us question racism & sexism, and brought the discussion to the forefront. It’s overdue that the topic be addressed, but would be a major learning curve for people to recognize their bias, and look past gender & color to get to the core issues and the heart of matter.
