a little slice of heaven

i am due to close on my very own house this week- so yeah!!! this won’t be the first property hubby and i have purchased- we currently own the house my family lives in and our apartment building- but this will be our very own home. now, you might ask, how can it be that someone so rabidly anti-establishment is buying into that very system? short answer- better self sufficiency. as weird as that sounds, it is how i am looking at things. the new home has more capacity for gardening, water catchment and storage, renewable energy capabilities and all of those other ‘green’ things i always talk about. i already have 2 mortgages- this just makes sense. there are many folks who advocate going off and buying a farm and living off of the land completely. my thought is- we may as well live our lives as best we can where we are. the reality is- global climate change is changing everything. if there is going to be famine and drought and martial law- i want to be on home turf. so- that’s the short version- i have to go and pack!

Congratulations Betmo!!! How much ‘land’ do you get with your new place?
Your probably packing, so I will talk to ya later
Happy Housewarming to you! I have heard others debate about if owning a home is establishmentarianism…. but if you rent, you pay tens of thousands of dollars over a lifetime- for someone else to buy a place. Upkeep & taxes are directly passed on to the renters, so if renters think they are skating on those items, they should think again.
I love the pure joy of doing what you want with the place. We ripped out green shag carpeting to expose the hardwood floors, that teapot wallpaper & wagon wheel kitchen light fixture went away on day one.
We have more sweat equity– have more time than $ to make changes…. but paint & some basic switches like that, can really change the feel of a place.
Enjoy!
