You Can Have My Womb When You Rip It From My Cold, Dead Body
May 30, 2008 by Dizzy Dezzi
I am actually stunned and somewhat speechless over the news from Colorado, today. (Warning: “bad words” and cursing lay ahead; not meant for sensitive eyes)
Coloradoans will get to vote on whether or not a fertilized human egg should get the same constitutional rights as a full-term human baby, in November.
This so-called “anti-abortion” measure is an insult to all thinking human beings. It assumes that women are not capable of determining the difference between an egg and a real living baby.
Please note, that the bill is to give a fertilized egg “human” status. Also note, that the egg is fertilized before what doctors consider “conception” transpires (that is, when the egg is implanted in the uterus). Also note, that before “conception” this fertilized egg will most likely be flushed down the toilet before the woman even realizes that “the law” considers her pregnant.
This measure would make most forms of birth control (except maybe condoms…for now…) illegal for “pre-pregnant” women to procure, since The Pill, the IUD, and Plan B, all prevent a fertilized egg from implanting in the woman’s uterus. The “simple” act of declaring a fertilized egg a human being with all the rights of a living breathing baby, will declare a woman’s womb the property of the state since, if this law passes, will mean that the state now has a compelling interest in seeing that every time a woman has sex that she is not using a product that will inhibit the life of the fertilized egg or that she is infringing on the “rights” of the egg.
What’s next? Will a sexually active woman be forced to submit to regularly scheduled pre-natal exams to be sure that she is taking care of her body to secure the life of every fertilized egg; will they force pre-pregnant women to take vitamins and adhere to a particular diet? Will women be forced to “admit” at every mandatory gynocological exam how many times she has had sex and how many menstrual periods she has had that might be construed as having actually been an abortion?
The only “upside” I can see to such a bill would be that, so long as a woman was having unprotected sex, if she was getting paid for it, she could argue, via this bill, that she is merely collecting child-support. I mean, after all, ALL children have a right to be cared for by both parents. If the mere act of unprotected sexual intercourse makes a man and a woman parents, then couldn’t one argue that the fertilized egg she is carrying is entitled to child-support just like a living breathing baby (after all, they have the same rights).
This proposed law will only criminalize sexual activity for women. Since birth control would have to be considered illegal in order to save the life of every fertilized egg, meaning that woman would no longer be able to provide for her own protection from pregnancy, forcing her to rely on her lover to be responsible for wearing a condom, a woman would either have to give up sex, entirely (until marriage, of course, and even then, only having sex to produce babies, since birth control would be illegal), or submit to the state. This proposed law would take away a pre-pregnant woman’s right to privacy. And, adding insult to injury, it forces religion into law, despite the fact that even science has not determined when a baby should be considered a baby (although most doctors believe at least conception should take place–conception doesn’t happen until a fertilized egg actually implants itself in the uterus and even then, it cannot survive outside the womb in any way shape or form as it has not so much as a heartbeat).
I’ll tell you right now and I’ll put it very bluntly and succinctly: STAY THE FUCK AWAY FROM MY WOMB! Or, put another way: You can have my womb when you rip it from my cold dead body (then, obviously, I won’t give a shit what you do with it)!
I’m sure that I don’t need to tell you, dear reader, as a Colorado voter, I plan to vote against this preposterous bill and I will be part of any kind of campaign I need to be to educate the public and keep those who would feign to know more about my body (having birthed three babies, having had one miscarriage, and probably flushed away many a fertilized egg in my day) than I do.
If we keep this shit up, we won’t be able to have sexual intercourse without a fucking permit (pun fully intended).
