NASA has been underfunded for a long time. As a former employee of the Space Program, I was there during the heyday and its disheartening to see it suffer. For the safety of our astronauts it needs more funding at least on a basic level. Just today the unity of space effort is being beautifully illustrated by the deployment of Japan's Kibo scientific laboratory. Houston, USA (with Canadian presence), Russia, France (ESA), and Japan will have control rooms working together in finely choreographed cooperation. The goal, in which so many nations have invested money and pride, is to keep the ISS in orbit, crew members (born in the U.S., Canada, Russia and Japan) alive and well, and to make the path of scientific progress clear and peaceful for everyone on the planet.
