Planned Stupidity

A cut in Federal funding for Planned Parenthood has the organization having to scramble to deliver the demand of services. Changes in who can be covered by Medicaid have forced some previous clients- who received free or low cost family planning, preventative services, and contraception, to be disqualified. Oregon Planned Parenthood has had to shut down a clinic & pare back programs. They have also had to charge for services they previously provided for no cost.
Planned Parenthood had previously given sex education classes to local school districts at no cost. these programs teach kids about safe sex, birth control, AIDS/HIV, & other sexually transmitted diseases. One Charter school staffer was quoted as saying “These are just the shortest-sighted kind of cuts any society can ever make. There’s not going to be any reduction in deficits, I can tell you that – babies born to our kids are going to be on the dole.”
That’s right- you can save a few bucks by cutting back on these programs, but paying for welfare babies, caring for those sick with AIDS/HIV will be no bargain.
Furthermore, the federally endorsed abstinence program has yielded the highest teen pregnancy rate in a decade.
Planned Parenthood is leaning toward charging school districs for education services- and local school officials are saying that would be a budget hardship.
Dick Cheney’s vote was the tie breaker that enacted this Deficit Reduction Act, $38.5 billion dollar federal spending cut. The act has had a harmful impact Medicaid funded health services, including Planned Parenthood. Now the Senate is trying to add a provision to remove a disincentive to pharmaceutical companies to offer deeply discounted birth control.
The bottom line is this another one of those penny wise, pound foolish plans.
What does Dick Cheney care about a vital low income health service & education programs?
It is the Planned Stupidity program.

What does Dick Cheney care about a vital low income health service & education programs?
I know that’s a rhetorical question, because Dick Cheney doesn’t give a rat’s ass about anything to do with low income families. They are not on his radar. He thinks of anyone not in his orbit as cockroaches to be eliminated.
got to keep those future soldiers coming. american imperialism depends upon a steady supply of low income bodies to send to the front lines of the war du jour. it may seem shortsighted to you, but this is long range right wing planning.
on a similar note, talking to my “democratic” mother-in-law in her hospital bed last night, i heard the following:
“i just can’t support abortion!”
“they’re little babies, you can’t kill little babies!”
“they [women] just need to keep their pants on!”
“birth control never fails, never!”
“they hand out condoms in school, there’s no reason for pregnancy.”
“of course i support the death penalty, god said an eye for an eye.”
“that scripture about eating shrimp being an abomination is in the first testament and jesus changed all that.”
“yes, eye for an eye is in the first testament, but it’s a matter of justice.”
some days ~ most days ~ i just want to screech myself into utter madness and poke out my eyes. it is too fucking much.
