book review on raj patel’s book, ’stuffed and starved: the hidden battle for the world’s food system’

many folks don’t realize that food shortages and food lines and riots will hit american streets. the global climate change, along with wars, speculators, corporate farming, etc., has already sparked shortages among the basic food groups. asia is experiencing rice shortages because they export the best to western countries and have been hit by devastating tsunamis and storms that have wiped out crops. flooding in the midwest and drought in australia is causing wheat shortages- bread, pasta, and a host of other foods will skyrocket in price. factor in the soaring transportation costs of shipping foods to supermarkets (that’s a post for another time) and things are going to get ugly. just an fyi- food prices up 8.5% from last year.
