Reasonable people know this –

August 16, 2008 by Gee Carol

Do not throw out the baby with the bathwater. Do not replace the current administration — or Democratic members of Congress — with another set of inept Republicans; it would be a strain the nation could not survive. Voters must select enough Democrats to assure that Congressional majorities can prevail in crucial votes. And I am not saying all Republicans need to go down to defeat. There are a number of good independent thinkers out there whom I admire. And their proposed president, John McCain could be just as bad as ourcurrent president (OCP), given his consistent mental lapses. I suspect I am not alone in this thinking.

What would we do without a little muckraking to help us find out the things voters need to know about the candidates? Looking past the law or the rules seems far too easy for Republicans. Here are just a few examples. The Federal Election Commission lawyers are claiming that John McCain may be able to change his campaign financing deal in midstream. Senator Ted Stevens says his arrest was unconstitutional. Senator Norm Coleman may be using undisclosed gifts to his personal advantage.

With possible massive economic collapse a possibility, and loss of privacy a certainty, and an ever-growing “military industrial complex” threat a reality, we do not need to replace leaders who already know

about, and act to combat, these risks to the nation’s well-being. If soldiers stationed in Iraq can favor Senator Obama, then Clinton supporters need to be clear-eyed voters, not angry Dem spoilers. It is time to close ranks, forgo catharsis, and get on with the general campaign. Reasonable people know this.

I think, especially after reading the Angry Black Bitch’s blog that the leader of the PUMA movement is a republican plant.

How else do you explain her giving money to AND voting for McCain in 2000?

I went to the independent thinkers link & there was an article about a republican trying to pass a bill to allow photos of Soldiers Iraq war dead arrivng back to the US. Several people wrote comments saying if we were following Constitutional laws, there would not need to be such a bill. Freedom of speech & freedom of the press. Obviously, this should be a personal matter for the family of the deceased. But Bush’s ban is purely political- because if he respected the Soldiers or the constitution, this would not be an issue. this is about manipulating the media & hiding the truth. I’m just sayin’ because I was curious to see the list of worthwhile repubs or what their accomplishments are. I’ve never seen such a list before.

All that being said, the dems themselves have a short list of those who have done much good. Pre 2006, they used the excuse their hands were tied by being a minority. Post 2006 they have no excuse for the list of failures– and that list is long. The biggest failure being not going forward wit Impeachment proceedings. Clinton went to trial based on a semen stain on a dress.
Bush has a lengthy list of Human Rights violations, including the illegal occupation of Iraq, and the resulting hundres of thousands of deaths.
The democrats have the power of the purse and are supposed to provide checks & balances. ALL of them- including Obama & Hillary have disappointed.

How do we obtain party unity when the party has been grossly negligent in their duties?

Dusty and Fran, sorry it took me so long to post this response. I’ve been away from the computer a lot this past weekend.
Dusty, I saw the woman from PUMA on TV and she could win any angry contest.
Fran, I watch a lot of C-SPAN, so get a chance to see members of both parties in Congress going about their business. I try to take note in my mind when Republicans do well, or at least adequate, and when Democrats fail to live up to minimal expectations. I also notice bipartisanship and compromise. We need for the whole bunch to be praised or panned for specifics, IMHO.
    Thanks for your thoughtful comment.
