ok- here’s the deal

hillary clinton did not win the nomination.
for those of us that did not make obama our first choice, there is certainly disappointment that our candidate did not win. the primaries have been over for weeks. let’s move on shall we? this is a majority rule country- like it or not. the election system is broken- like it or not. to say that you will vote for mccain because you don’t like obama- that is the stupidest thing i have ever heard of in this election season. believe me- i have heard quite a few.
if you are a clinton supporter and intend to vote for mccain because you ‘don’t like obama as a person’ because ‘he doesn’t understand’ and blah, blah, blah- please don’t call yourself a feminist because you are the furthest thing from. please don’t call yourself an activist because a vote for mccain is a vote against democracy. like what you have seen for the last 8 years? then by all means- vote mccain out of spite. the bush admin has been working steadily over the last 8 years- in conjunction with the christian right- to take away women’s rights and women’s reproductive rights. so, please, vote mccain. healthcare and education for your children is important to you? mccain intends to keep right on keepin’ on where bushco left off- so by all means cast your vote in that direction.
you so called ‘feminists and activists’ are the reason that women have such a difficult time in a man’s world. there is no looking at the bigger picture and there is no compromise- it’s your way or you throw a big fit and become spiteful. apparently, you don’t realize that there is a third party candidate running for president named cynthia mckinney. a strong african american woman running on the green party ticket.
no, of course you wouldn’t know that- you are too busy planning your revenge- being spiteful- you can’t see the forest through the trees.

Your rather juvenile attacks aside, your underlying point is correct. However, if there is a perceived (there is) level of disrespect for Mrs. Clinton, the implication can be understood as disregarding what she accomplished as unimportant, which, necessarily, engenders some hostility from her most ardent supporters.
The level of discourse currently displayed by many Obama supports (and others) does hint at this disrespect; therefore your criticism of those supporters who campaigned for her to be the VP or who still argue that Obama needs to make a more concerted effort to appeal to them is unwarranted. It only displays the same disrespect that enrages these voters in the first place.
The image you chose to use, for example, implies that it is Mrs. Clinton leading this charge, when it is, in fact, her supporters and surrogates. This is ignorance. Of course we could assume, as everybody seems to do, Mrs. Clinton’s “evil” intentions, but such an assumption is merely the product of the same reasoning that merely disregards the millions of voters who still believe that Clinton is the best choice.
The absurdity in saying “Just move on!” to nearly 18 million voters is overwhelming. If the roles were reversed, my argument would be applied to Obama supporters who, it stands to reason lest we make completely unfounded assumptions about something inherent to Clinton supporters, would be just as ardent and demanding of Mrs. Clinton’s campaign.
Alexs last blog post..Here’s a better idea:
Hello Alex,
Thank you for stopping by Sirens and giving us your pov on this issue, which really should be a non-issue by now in my humble yet usually very vocal opinion.
There have been several campaigns in my memory where the voters were almost evenly split between a party’s two candidates, or if not evenly split…it was a large chunk of voters. Since that is Hillary’s main claim to fame in this election cycle..I will give her that one.
But I don’t recall…and I am an old bitch, where one group of supporters have been so rabid in their mission to get the loser so much airtime, facetime and demanding with regard to their candidate getting the VP slot on the Democratic ticket.
I was a Kucinich then Edward supporter. I never once gave Hillary a thought for many reasons that I won’t go into here.
That the press marginalized both those candidates really pissed me the hell off. That Hillary supporters do it as well bugs the hell out of me too.
I will not vote for Obama..but then, I don’t support him.
But I will be damned if some crazy female like Darragh Murphy, who btw donated to Senator McCain’s 2000 run for the Republican nomination, will speak for me.
Evidently you don’t mind if she does speak for you? Just wondering..
There is nothing absurd about telling Hillary’s 18 million voters to either get on the Big O bus or move on to another issue or candidate. It’s a no-brainer in fact.
Sorry that you don’t see that.
If you and the other 18 million Hillary fans have a goal of keeping the Big O out of the oval office, I think your doing a damn good, bang-up job of it.
But thanks again for stopping by and giving us your two cents.
Dustys last blog post..Biden is a mixed bag for progressives..
look- you can certainly read into my remarks anything you want- i certainly did not say or convey i am an obama supporter- quite the contrary. but i am not pissing and moaning over the fact that dennis k. conceded- as did mrs. clinton. hillary clinton is my home state senator and i have first hand knowledge of how she and chuckles shumer have ‘worked’ for new yorkers. that’s why she didn’t get my vote. there certainly was misogyny involved in the msm during her campaign but her campaign most certainly used racist campaigning- overt and covert. didn’t work. she didn’t win. yes, i am telling 18 million hillary supporters to get the fuck over it. they are acting like spoiled brats and like hillary is the last white female hope. get over it. take a look at changing the system- vote for cynthia mckinney.
the bigger point is just that- hillary supporters want their way or they will try to bring down the entire democratic party- sounds a bit right wingian to me. and fyi- not only am i not an obama supporter- i am not even a democrat. these women who continue to call themselves activists and feminists are quite the opposite. the clintons are no more liberal than obama- and they certainly aren’t progressive. that was evidenced by their old school campaign.
that, however, is over and done with- and the clintonistas need to involve themselves in someone else’s campaign- and for many of them it seems to be mccain’s. to that i say- just switch parties. as for the image, i googled hillary clinton and it came up. it didn’t occur to me that it looked like she was leading any charge- but now that you mention it, she certainly is not discouraging her minions from their quest at the convention. it just smacks of a middle school kid who didn’t win at field day crying until they get an honorable mention ribbon. that’s juvenile.

I don’t think Hillary or Bill will ever get over it but I really have to wonder what is going to happen!
PUMA fueled by the likes of Rove, Kristol, and Limburger, are going to cause as much chaos for the cameras and MSM as possible to facilitate stealing a third election!
While democrats are working to heal any rift perceived or real the right is working over time to widen it!

I’m going to reply to Alex’s response.
Speaking of disrespect….. I think Hillary did in her own campaign. She was her own worst enemy, becoming increasingly desperate.
Hillary played the race, gender, assassination & lets change the rules in the middle of the primaries cards.
How naive to think after such a caustic primary Hillary would possibly be a VP option.
One friend asked me: Do you think Obama should choose Hillary for VP?
My answer: Then he would have to sleep with one eye open.
Hillary & Obama don;t have the chemistry to be in that political relationship together.
Besides, the clinton family had 2 terms & the Bush family 3 terms. That’s 20 years of the 2 same families running the country. I don;t know about anyone else, but I’ve had enough of those dynasties.
frans last blog post..Conventional Wisdom
Isn’t the most compelling issue facing all of us is that McCain would just bring our country four more years of Bushliburton bad acts and incompetency, and that our only option at this point is to be pragmatic and opt for electing a president who represents the opposition to everything Bushliburton? There is no point in allowing a feeling of sour grapes on anybody’s part to blow the opportunity to reverse the course set by Bushliburton.
