Hillary Clinton Was Awesome Last Night
August 27, 2008 by Diva Jood
My daughter and I watched Hillary’s speech last night at the Democratic National Convention - day 2 - and we were awestruck by the power of her passion. She was never this compelling during this campaign - but her message last night struck a chord I needed to hear: we cannot afford four more years of Republicans in the White House. We cannot.
When she asked her supporters if they were in it for her, or for the single mother with cancer, or for the Marine in the hospital, or for the uninsured Americans, I got chills. Because her message was clear: put away your grudges, and unify to defeat John McCain. She said to her supporters, and to other undecided Democrats that this is NOT the time to sit on the sidelines - this is the time to focus on issues and those issues are clear:
A McCain Presidency means dependence upon foreign oil. This is bad for the economy, bad for the environment, and bad for security. A McCain Presidency means that millions of Americans will remain uninsured and unable to afford health care. A McCain Presidency means that basic human needs will continue to be available only to the super wealthy and highly priviledged. A McCain Presidency means four more years of Bush policies, and we cannot afford more of the same-old same-old.
She will be fierce on the campaign trail for Obama. She will attack McCain every possible chance and she will be brilliant. I think she will focus on Health Care, which is her passion, and god love her, I think she will convince everyone who is afraid of a Universal Health Care Plan why it is essential. I love her passion for this cause.
Hillary began with a message of Unity, moved to her campaign and her message, and then just savaged John McCain, ending with a message of Unity. Throughout her speech, there was a sense of urgency, real urgency about why we must elect a Democrat as President, and that Barack Obama is her candidate. My god, she was brilliant. And I suspect that her husband, President Bill Clinton, will be as fierce tonight in his call to Unity. Just amazing, an amazing speech!

“A McCain Presidency means dependence upon foreign oil.”
I’m for Obama also, but don’t kid yourself about what a Democrat or a Republican can do about the dependence on foreign oil. The last 35 years of grandstanding followed by burying-one’s-head-in-the-sand is bipartisan.
An Obama presidency means Roe vs Wade won’t be overturned. There’s a declaration a pessimistic cynic like me can count on.
I agree Diva~ This was a genuine Hillary who gave a speech like she had NOT done in her campaign. She was clear and articulated a long list of reasons why McCain is not an option. Why there there is no time to sapre, and no votes to spare…. meaning if you are on the fence–VOTE!
Hillary delivered in a way she had not before…. but even better still Kucinich nailed it.
