Pondering history…

August 29, 2008 by Angry Black Bitch

Last night I watched as history was made when Senator Obama accepted the Democratic Party’s nomination and became the first black man nominated by a major political party to seek the presidency of the United States of America.

And I so wish my beloved father was alive to have seen it.

Today, this bitch is pausing to remember a historical event that is still unfolding and impacting so many people’s lives.

Three years ago today Hurricane Katrina came ashore…

…and she changed everything.

Hurricane Katrina didn’t just expose engineering problems, weak levees and the lack of emergency preparedness.

Katrina exposed our flaws and our callous disregard of our fellow citizens. She exposed the true price of crony politics and the sad definition of traditional values.

At least 1,836 people lost their lives.

I can’t help but wonder how many of those lives lost are charged to human failure.

So today let us remember those lost and those still trying to dig out three years later.

“You see things; and you say, ‘Why?’ But I dream things that never were; and I say, ‘Why not?’”. George Bernard Shaw, “Back to Methuselah”

I would like to add that the following worthwhile cause still needs donations to help rebuild the NOLA community:

Obama made a reference to Katrina in his speech last night

“America, we are better than these last eight years. We are a better country than this.

We are more compassionate than a government that lets veterans sleep on our streets and families slide into poverty; that sits on its hands while a major American city drowns before our eyes.”

He needed to talk specifics & those are the kinds of things we need to remember come election day. Screw the political rhetoric red white & blue bullshit– what did this administrations do or not do in it;s 8 too fucking long years at the helm.

I know it is historic, but I am beyond the race card… I genuinely don’t care what color or gender the candidate is… I want someone who will lead, and inject common sense, and humanity into the mix.

I don’t expect a candidate to walk on water. They are humans just like the rest of us…. but we’ve been down so low, and clear off the very foundations this country was built upon.

Bush’s 2000 camapign promise was to bring integrity back to the white house.
Have we ever witnessed such an absolute & total failure?

Obama has a clue and a direction to dig us out of this mess.

He’s not gonna be able to fix it anytime soon. But at least he has a vision, and it seems his heart in the right place.

As the Gulf coast hunkers down for a major Hurricane to hit about Monday…
we all need to evacuate from this administration, and head for higher ground.
