About Community Organizers
September 8, 2008 by Fran
The Republicans had their heyday digging in to discredit Community Organizers.
Palin said “I guess a small-town mayor is sort of like a community organizer, except that you have actual responsibilities.”
As you might have guessed, community organizers are angry about the insulting remarks.
“Organizers described themselves as the antidote to big money lobbyists who wield so much influence. They talked about helping powerless people join forces to demand better schools and safer streets, often by working through churches. If people in (government) office were doing their jobs, perhaps we wouldn’t need community organizers”.
“I don’t like seeing the really hard work that goes on in really poor communities being demeaned by cheap politicians”, said Joshua Hoyt, executive director of the Illinois Coalition for Immigrant and Refugee Rights.
COMMUNITY ORGANIZING IS AS AMERICAN AS DEMOCRACY. IT BELIEVES THAT ORDINARY PEOPLE CAN DO EXTRAORDINARY THINGS.

These remarks are a slice of the republican mindset. People working together for a common cause, good of the neighborhood or community is a highlight of humanity. After all, each community is a part of the larger global community.
Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.

Oh how delicious! Ms. Palin boasting about her mayoral responsibilities. That’s rich. How many community organizers start off with a zero balance and, when all’s said and done, leave a $27million deficit, without paving any roads, building any more sidewalks, other than outside the boondoggle “sports complex” that itself proved to be just a load of hot air from her and her agents proposing that it would be a money-maker within a few years.
I’m sure the residents of Alaska will be forever grateful for those $1200 oil/gas checks when the oil runs out and everyone else is on a hydrogen-based energy grid.
I’ve finally found someone I detest more than Dick Cheney! Yay for me!
Not only did Palin insult those community organizers who are some of the most important movers & shakers, working for essential changes….
but you left a few items off your list of *things to loathe*. Allow me to add
a few items:
• Sarah Louise Heath Palin ~ Winner of the Miss Wasilla Pageant, then finished second in the Miss Alaska pageant,[ at which she won a college scholarship and the “Miss Congeniality” award.
• She instituted a temporary policy requiring department heads to get her approval before talking to reporters, stating they first needed to become better acquainted with her policies. Censorship
• Palin wanted books banned, and fired the librarian when she refused to ban books. The town was in an uproar, so the librarian was reinstated.
• Foe to wildlife. May 2008 Palin launched a lawsuit to fight the listing of the Polar Bear on the Threatened list under the endangered species act. Palin is alos opposed to listing the Beluga Whale under the ESA.
• In 2007, the Alaska Creamery Board recommended closing Matanuska Maid Dairy, an unprofitable state-owned business. Palin objected, citing concern for dairy farmers and a recent infusion of $600,000 in state money. Palin subsequently replaced the entire membership of the Board of Agriculture and Conservation. The new board reversed the decision to close the dairy. Later in 2007, the unprofitable business was put up for sale. No offers met the minimum bid of $3.35 million, and the dairy was closed. In August 2008, it was purchased for $1.5 million, the new minimum bid.
• A gun toting, pro life, creationist, who is anti gay & vehemently against abortion.
• She asks we refrain from saying anything about her unwed pregnant daughter, but would happily legislate against everyone else ability to make private decisions for themselves.
Change?
She IS worse than Undisclosed location Cheney! Who’d a thunk?

Good points, fran.
As to the Creamery deal, an investigation has been called for to answer who bought the dairy and then might have received some kickbacks from Ted Stevens.
Quite a fishy smell coming from a dairy, and believe me, a dairy does not smell all that great anyway. Phew!
Can we just go ahead and cut through all the bullshit now? Let’s call it what it is:
Palin/McCain 08!
