bill maher keepin’ it real

bill maher is not afraid to speak out. his former show was ‘politically incorrect’ and this one is ‘real time’ in real time. we should all speak out- and realize that we should be leaving the truth for posterity. lord knows the majority of america won’t. dusty and i were chatting about political correctness and how ridiculous it has all become. now, don’t get me wrong, i am all about basic human rights and human dignity, but you won’t find that on the surface of our political institutions- or even many of the upper eschelon left wing blogs.

here’s a snip from my email conversation:

dusty: “Love Bill Maher!!! Some folks think he’s sexist…fuck em..”

betmo: “those are probably the same folks that think everything should be politically correct. it doesn’t solve anything to hide behind political correctness. throw crap out there and have some honest dialogue. being racist, homophobic, misogynistic, etc., should be brought out into the light and summarily crushed- or you get the rock slitherers like the ones at the palin/mccain rallies.”

dusty: “(big name blog) is ONE of them.”

betmo: “i had to stop reading- i read through a few posts because everyone always raves about (big name blog). i was instantly turned off by what i view as stupid liberals. you are not going to stop a fire by singing kumbaya and hoping things will settle down. i am all about non violence and respecting other people’s rights and beliefs– unless, they infringe on mine. this isn’t sweet, gentle politics as usual- and truth be told- the issues we face at this point are larger than the feminists’ movement and hurt feelings. we are fighting for the life of our country, our constitution and our planet. shrilly shrieking about political correctness is what led me to purge much of my google reader. i am left with a few good blogs- and a bunch of newsy type. basic human kindness and recognizing that every man and woman on this planet is a fellow human being- is more useful than the political correctness thing that bigots and racists and their ilk hide behind. as is evidenced by the rock slitherers.”

and i genuinely believe that we should be skewering the left as much as the right. the smug, self righteousness of looking down on the rabble and not engaging is what got us into this mess in the first place. the only way to get a good balance is to move both poles to the middle- and stir it around. we all have to share the same planet- and as much as i would dearly love to see the right wing keep to itself and just devolve itself into extinction- it ain’t going to happen in my life time. we have to dilute the gene pool and improve education. truth is power. education is power. we have both- and had better learn to wield the power efficiently- or we will lose our chance to save the planet. buying into the same system that got us into this mess- left of right in charge- will not solve our problems.
