i. can’t. fucking. take. it.

Six more days? How many more days? Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday, Monday, TUESDAY. It’s unbearable.
I have a romping case of Election Related Anxiety Disorder and I need something, some massive doses of valium, alcohol, some fucking thing to get me through Tuesday and what I hope will be, what must be, the beginning of getting this country turned around. I compulsively check HuffPo, Wonkette, Talking Points Memo, Kos, Americablog, Shakesville, Jack & Jill Politics, Joe.My.God, Digby, knowing if disaster strikes, they’ll hear it first. I’ve taken ~ God help me ~ to checking Free Republic, that maniac Malkin, the Fox News website, Town Hall, always with a sense of impending doom, as if the rantings of lunatics could somehow reassure me.
Are you feeling this? I am losing my mind. Mike too. We’re constantly running each other down throughout the day to share the latest positive (sometimes negative) indicator. The polls in . . . The turnout in . . . Flyers in Philly telling Dems to vote Wednesday!!!! Could all the polls be . . . What will we do if . . Rachel said. . . In 2004, the polls at this point . . . Oh God, now there’s a tape! a video! can you bear it? How fast can we get that house in Mexico? What will we do . . . They can’t win again, can they? CAN THEY???
CAN THEY????
Do you think they can pull it off again??? One more election stolen by the rat bastards who promised a permanent Republican majority eons ago, back in 2000, when the abominations of the Bush administration were only neocon wet dreams?
I am terrified. I can’t sleep. Lordy, I can eat though, my constant companion in times of unbearable stress. I wish I could drink ~ just one after 26 years, wouldn’t that be okay? just to get through? ~ or pop a pill or just have someone put me to sleep for six days. My 1st grade biracial grandson comes into the warehouse after school all riled up. “Grandma! If that old white man wins, he’s gonna make all us black people slaves again!” Even the children. I reassure him. I can’t reassure myself. Six days. I can’t bear it. Can you?
So I take a deep breath and remind myself of the outpouring of support we’re seeing across this nation, of the unprecedented turnout and the stunning level of involvement in the Democratic campaigns at every level, and I think that we can. We can do this. They can’t take it away, not this time. We can make this happen. Right? Right??? Tell me we can do this.

In 1972, I smoked a lot of pot. In 1976, I was still smokin’ a lot of pot. In 1980, I vowed to move to Canada if Reagan was elected, but instead, I just kept smokin’. In ‘84 and again in ‘88. I puffed away my thoughts and troubles. In 1992 there was some hope, but what the hell, I smoked anyway. It made the good times even better. In ‘96, well, he inhaled even when he said he didn’t, and that cigar thing, WOW!
It was 2000 and I said then that I knew we were in trouble for eight years. I had quit roopin’ doobie by that time, but thought I could get by. It was a struggle, but I’m ready for a toke or two myself right about now.
The bottom line for me is that no matter what they say and do, they ain’t gonna change my mind. I just hope my vote counts! Now relax and burn a fat one.
I read an article in the local newspaper about how this window of time is a boatload of stress for news junkies. People tend to vote for a person based on deep, core beliefs- so just as much as many progressive people desperately want to have sanity, & democracy restored to our country, feeling like it has become SO BAD, maybe it is time to seriously think about leaving this country— there are those on the opposite end of the spectrum, feeling equally desperate– listening to FAUX SNOOZE, and talk radio– believing whatever they hear, because if it is broadcast, it must be true. Those folks are taking in the fear/danger/questioning and all those prejudices wrapped into the poison package they are being sold.
I gotta tell ya, I feel like we’ve gone back in time- some of the strange ass shit people have been saying- I’m not even going to dignify it by repeating it. They have dredged up old & nasty divisive prejudice that never lost it’s nastiness.
Just like that old Bullwinkle cartoon, with a hallway of doors, you open that door & it’s a roaring lion’s head. BAM! Slam that door shut.
But here’s the thing— every time I am subjected to a clip of McCain/Palin, on the news, I notice their flapping jaws are doing one thing…. always talking about OBAMA.
They don’t have a plan, or a voting record they are proud of- their whole damned campaign is based around slamming Obama’s plan. That’s it!
When you look for substance–they’ve got nothing!
I’m not naive enough to think elections are not tampered with. The McCain’s have the beer baroness’ fortunes, and I don’t doubt they would not be opposed to trying to buy the election. Certainly those f’ing Diebold voting machines can be trusted as far as you can throw them.
My hope is the landslide overwhelming majority of votes for Obama will override any bullshit tricks the reich wing has up their sleeves. Because I trust them as far as I can throw them too.
I think the reason the repugs have their panties in a bunch over all the new voter registrations is they are trying to manipulate the election.
I bet we are going to see 6 plus hour waits to vote, and we are already hearing of Diebld touch screens going bad (people in W VA. seeing their vote for Obama change to a vote for McCain right before their eyes. If I was voting on one of those machines, I’d probably bring a sledgehammer with me. Machine “irregularity”??? Let me fix it for good. No doubt there will be more mayhem on 11/4, and I don;t doubt the repugs planned it that way. The most severe problems always happen in democratic strongholds.
In a perfect world- Obama wins by a crushing landslide. Shortly thereafter there is a huge bonfire with the patriot act, all diebold machines, and other sundry items.
We can’t take another stolen election. I’ve already voted too. Maybe we have to step away from the damned TV & go take some time in nature. She has a calming effect. Listening to birds chirp & squirrels chatter makes more sense than most of the stuff they are broadcasting now anyway.
But you KNOW your country is in trouble when a squirrel makes more sense than the repug VP. Good Lord! If we could fast forward to sanity!!!!!
