Happy New Year

The Chinese New Year being celebrated today is the beginning of the Year Of The Ox. The symbol of hard work, patience and loyalty. A great way to go into the next 12 months. Working hard to patiently restore our country with loyalty and dedication. America couldn’t have better symbolism than that on the road to recovery. Those attributes added to a sense of unity may get this whole shebang back on track.  The new administration has proffered a call to unity and healing that we desperately need right now.

I was challenged this past week by a right leaning aquaintance about the fact that I have griped and bitched for the last 8 years about the former administrations policies. I was asked where my sense of unity was there. I responded with the fact that the former president was closer to a dictator than a unifier. He did seem to feel that since he talked to gawd his decisions were the final word. Unity be damned. The new guy is actually asking for togetherness, not division.

I DID complain for the last 8 years.
There was no talk of unity then. There was the “If you are against the war then you are against the troops” bullshit constantly spewed. Divisive.
The “Danger!!! Fear your neighbor!!! Especially if he or she is of another religion or nationality!!!! was promoted for continued divisiveness. In fact the racism promoted with the border fence and subsequent press about illegal aliens and the threats of their presence was anything but a call for unity.
Thinking back over the last few years the only times I ever heard a call for unity from President Bush was when he wanted everyone to blindly support his war in Iraq, back his torture, get behind the illegal domestic spying, being fearful and suspicious of everyone and make new laws to take away more freedoms in the name of patriotism and safety.
Never a call for unity to revive America. Only the fear based call to destroy freedoms.
This time there is a call for unity without fear. A call to get behind repairing the damage done, no matter who did the damage. A call to get behind recreating a working population. A call to support ending torture and restoring some of our rights that have disappeared in the past 8 years.
I don’t find it funny at all that Liberal thinking folks would not change their tunes and continue the call to unity that we have never given up. That’s what all of the griping has been about for the last 8 years and that’s what “liberals” will continue doing.

Calling for a unified and equal America.
