Well…He Told Us He Was Gonna….

When President Obama was running for office he told us he was going to be the President Of Change. Everywhere you look there is proof of him trying to keep his promise. The Stimulus plan shows he is at least trying to get something done about our economic climate. The fact he is trying to pull troops from Iraq and put them in Afghanistan is another show of change. Unfortunately it seems that is just a change of war fronts, not the move towards peace I had hoped for.

The Bush administration tried to keep the attacks against terror in Iraq and Afghanistan. At least thats what the world was told. Bombing outside the perimeters of the “legal” war was kept quiet for the most part, the Afghanistan border crossings into Pakistan by drones never made much pop news. It is being smothered by the woeful economic news even now.

But the invasions into Pakistan lately are Obama’s doing. As he told us he would. Way back in the summer of 2007, he said that the hunt for al Qaeda should extend into Pakistan. Of course other groups have been added to the list of terrorist supporters since then. Added to the target list as well. The threat of terrorism, along with the continual fearful blabbering on the evening news, has opened a new front. In the name of freedom the machine is seeking support for killing others. As we saw when the buildup for Iraq was being sold, they will get all of the support they need. The salesman is just a better educated, smoother talker than the last doddering drunk that held the office when the Iraq invasion was happening. The invasion and subsequent occupation of an uneasy Pakistan seems inevitable.

They need more new soldiers for this and the lines are long across the United States at the recruitment offices. Many young men and women see this as their only out what with jobs being scarce these days. The retooling of the automakers surely includes increased production of military vehicles so there is some better employment stimulus as well. Roads and bridges need to be improved so the increased traffic of military vehicles moving troops and equipment won’t be compromised.  Education needs more funding so the new recruits found at the high schools Career Day will be brighter and smarter. Pumped full of fresh propaganda.

But as our President has said, recovery wont come over night. First they have to sell everybody on the fine points of economic recovery. But first they need to sell us another war.

I’d rather see them bring all of our troops home.
