3355717766_56589c0491World Naked Bike Ride (WNBR) is an international clothing optional bike ride, in which people ride together en masse on human powered transport to protest oil dependency & celebrate the power & individuality of our bodies. The dress code motto is “Bare As You Dare”. Full and partial nudity is encouraged, but not mandatory, on all rides. Requiring partial cover-up is strictly forbidden and is a distinguishing feature of WNBR versus other cycling events. Creative  expression is also encouraged to create a fun and immersive atmosphere during the ride, to capture the attention and imagination of passers-by and the media,  and to make the experience more personalized and fulfilling for the riders.

This distinctive form of Critical Mass, occasionally called Critical Ass, is often described or categorized as a party on wheels, and  attracts a wide-range of participants. (Wiki).

I live in a college town. This weekend in brisk, 40 degree, rainy weather, locals gathered for a *Naked Bike Ride*. This guy is sporting the official local slogan:

LESS GAS MORE ASS.

City ordinances allow PUBLIC nudity if it is for a political statement or cause…. and their cause was “For energy independence ~ every day”. It was about 50 people riding their bikes in various states of undress. Interestingly- they actually got a parade permit- so they not only were a sanctioned event, they had official police escorts!

Here is some video footage of the March 2009, Oregon “demonstration”- I am not saying which one is my kid!!!

You’ve got to give these folks credit for coming up with an attention getting method to make a statement about energy independence & having a whole lot of fun doing so!
