Time To Give Rush His Due Respect

It’s time that those weak kneed, soulless Republican politicians and political operatives who have allowed Rush Limbaugh to hijack their party give him the respect he is due.
No, Rush is not “just an entertainer”, he is a cynical media demagogue willing to say anything, no matter how inflammatory, untruthful, outlandish or outrageous to bring ignorant, gullible, paranoid sheeple, and subsequently, cynical, deep pocketed advertisers to his den of character assassination over the radio waves, with the ultimate and overriding goal of putting more lucre in his pockets. He has no discernible moral or political principals, what drives him seems to be purely based upon avarice and the ego boost he gives himself for being a bully.
Rush has accomplished a great deal since he was born 58 years ago in to a prominent legal family in Cape Giradeau, Missouri, and despite his grandfather, father, brother, uncle and cousin carrying on the family tradition of serving in the legal field as attorneys, prosecutors and judges, Rush, beginning in 1967 while still in high school, chartered a course for himself as a radio personality. Rush who was using the aptly chosen stage name “Rusty Sharpe” was sharp enough to flunk out of college after two semesters. Rush then began his radio career in McKeesport, Pennsylvania in the early 1970’s, spinning top 40 tunes; never in jeopardy of being drafted either by accident of his birth date (giving him a high draft number) or later, due to a physical impairment discovered on his ass.
Over the span of the past 25 years Rush, the scholarly challenged son of a small town in the heartland of America has become, arguably, the most successful talk radio personality in the country, amassing a daily audience of roughly 20,000,000 gullible, prejudiced and paranoid members of the far right of the political spectrum. Rush Limbaugh has to be respected and acknowledged for making himself the master grifter of our era. An uneducated sharpie who through deception, misdirection, perseverance and pure guile has been able to amass power and treasure simply by making statements mocking persons with chronic disease or disability (calling Michael J. Fox’s Parkinsons symptoms an act on his radio show in 2006), making racist cracks about the president of the United States (“Barack The Magic Negro”), or promoting the fallacy (disprovable in any 8th grade social studies class) that the president, who was born in Hawaii, is not a legal citizen of the United States (in 2008).
A thrice divorced, proud misogynist con artist able to get away with teaching impressionable young boys via his radio show that women are PMS crazed killers (“the all American first cavalry Amazon battalion, which is nothing more than a bunch of women soldiers on PMS”), all the while getting paid handsomely by his corporate sponsors.
You have got to admire the guile of a man (ironically addicted to prescription pain killers) who never served a minute in the armed forces in his life, as he mocks the mounting evidence of torture (by water boarding, which is induced drowning) inflicted by the government, by slapping his face while on the air, equating the water boarding to a face slap, cleverly making a buffoon of himself while he rakes in an annual income in excess of $30,000,000.
You have got to marvel at a man who is able to induce the most powerful leaders of his political party to cowtow to him, who is able to a induce major corporations, lead by the best and brightest of the business world to, underwrite him year after year, who is able to find and attract an audience of millions upon millions of Americans proud to be called “dittoheads”. You have to respect that a man who has been able, despite his relentless, clownish, ignorant posturing to continue to blow smoke out of his ass at his audience and make them willingly suck it up and regurgitate it daily for well nigh 30 years, has got to have some inate talent.
It is mind boggling to think about what Rush Limbaugh would have been able to accomplish if he had ever decided to go legit.

Always respect your enemies folks. You can dislike your enemies, you can mock their character, you can know that they are evil incarnate, you can hold them in the deepest contempt, you can hate what they stand for and what they do, you can condemn them and their actions, but what ever you do, don’t not respect the power and influence they might wield, what ever you do, learn everything you can know about them, be able to take their measure and understand how they have achieved their power and what they need to do to retain their power. Never turn your back on them, never mock their abilities, never underestimate them, never forget what they are capable of, because if you do, they will prevail over you. Always respect the potential harm they can do to you.
