Dictatorship Or Just Protecting The Good Ol’ Boys?

When George Dumbya Bush was our president he had his hands full of crap that brought shame to Americans and our way of life. While these storms of violence, torture and harassment were by products of his war’s, he still tried to keep his hands clean and talked like a patriotic leader. One who played right and enforced laws and treaties. After the debacle at the Abu Ghraib prison he even went on Arab radio and teevee to talk about how wrong the harassment was and how wrong doers in a democracy would be held accountable. He said those who broke the law should be prosecuted and only under a dictatorship would the wrongdoers be let go with crimes forgotten.  Edgar at Antemedius, another liberal blog, feels like the interview was Bush demanding his own prosecution for war crimes.

In the interview Georgie said, “It’s important for people to understand that in a democracy, there will be a full investigation. In other words, we want to know the truth. In our country, when there’s an allegation of abuse … there will be a full investigation, and justice will be delivered. … It’s very important for people and your listeners to understand that in our country, when an issue is brought to our attention on this magnitude, we act. And we act in a way in which leaders are willing to discuss it with the media. … In other words, people want to know the truth. That stands in contrast to dictatorships. A dictator wouldn’t be answering questions about this. A dictator wouldn’t be saying that the system will be investigated and the world will see the results of the investigation.

Now, my question is, if a dictatorship doesent prosecute those obviously guilty of ordering and supporting torture of “enemy combatants” do we in fact live under one?  The new administration is ducking around the issue of prosecuting the former leaders of our country who approved and encouraged the torturing of political prisoners. Seems nothing will be done and the criminals will go without being charged.

If you go by what he said in the interview the Obama administration is a dictatorship. We see the continuation of war talk and occupation of other countries. The drone bombings in Pakistan. The planned increase of war in Afghanistan. The “withdrawal of troops” from Iraq (leaving 50 thousand occupying troops there of course. After all we need to protect the oil pipeline.) The massive increase of police and soldiers in our own country is an indication of dictatorship as well.

Those who supported Bush and his policies should be demanding his administration’s torture plans be investigated and wrongdoers be prosecuted. After all it is what he said should happen and those who support him have always done what he wanted them to do before.

Why stop now?

One Response to “Dictatorship Or Just Protecting The Good Ol’ Boys?”

This is my biggest complaint about the Obama administration. When he had his 100 days press conference, I noticed the one phrase he DID NOT use whilst talking about prosecuting the torture lovers was:

    The Rule of Law

Before that, he used that phrase quite a bit..now, he avoids it like the friggin plague.

Something is up, and it isn’t good.
