Are Tea Party Protesters Racist?

(Image from Dr. David McKalip, Florida Tea Party and Town Hall Protest organizer, founder of “Doctors For Patient Freedom” and “Cut Taxes Now,” and speaker at several GOP “virtual town halls,” sent last week to the Google Tea Party listserv marked “Funny stuff:”)

One of the debates I have been hearing in the background as the Tea Party folks disrupt the town hall meetings about health care is the opinion that the dissent is racist. Hearing it being compared to Goebbels suppression of political discussion in 1930’s Germany are surfacing. People are saying the right wing wouldn’t be so up in arms about policy if our president had a pure Euro-American white heritige. Folks are calling the “teabaggers” (I prefer to call them teabaggee’s) racist. It may be partly true.

What I am going to tell here is filled with an offensive racist term so if you are too sensitive please quit reading and hold your comments as I am just quoting others.

While this is by no means an attempt to lump all of the groups together or label any individuals, I saw first hand Saturday who and what is running the “Tea Party” yellathons in southeastern New Mexico today.
While in KFC enjoying my weekly grease fix 8 people came in and pushed a table next to the booth that joined to the booth I was sitting at. Two of the men went to the counter to order while the rest of the group spread out papers and folders around the two tables. One of the guys looked familiar to me and I tentatively ID’d him as B. W.,an organizer of the Roswell Tea Party folks/rally’s.
Conversation was lively as their plans for the upcoming Alamogordo and Las Cruces Town Hall meetings was getting them all riled up.
The chicken came to the table (only one of the 8 was having grilled..the rest fried. I will get to the point of this menu observation soon) While they all dug in conversation at their table waned. We were 9 of the 18 white and Latino customers in the place (14 white 4 hispanic I counted a minute later. I will also address why this is important as my story goes along).
The roar of a Road King and the humming of a V Star soon came through the windows as two riders stopped for lunch. As the riders dismounted and removed their helmets one of the folks at the adjoining table loudly announced they were black. The one that looked and acted like B. W. said…and I quote, “Figures, niggers coming to get fried chicken.”. (seems there were already 18 non “niggers” in the place when the 2 men came)
Others chimed in with one woman even cat calling to the girl working at the counter, “I didn’t know you started serving watermelon.”.
The term “nigger” was used by these folks even as the men came in and placed their order. I assumed their racist talk would bring wrath from the men but instead they ignored it, eating their small meals of grilled chicken breasts (not fried as the racist right wing fanatics had predicted…and were eating themselves) green beans and potatoes. The talk at the organizing table slowly turned back to planning the shoutdowns and I continued reading my newspaper.
As the riders got up and started to put their protective jackets back on the big guy who rode the Yamaha stepped over to their table.
“Uh-Oh”, I thought.
The huge man loomed over the suddenly nervous group of white Republicans and said, “God bless all of you”. and walked out to his ride.

After the bikers left there was a much more subdued return to their plans for the meetings.

Thats who are organizing here. Probably in many other locations in the country as well.
No wonder I can’t attempt to see things their way.

Good one but of course they are racist. They feel they lost their country to Blacks and want it back. All their BS is just their excuse!

He’s kinda right my fucking ass. That douchebag needs a got-damned pink slip. Really, is that the best they could come up with as a Justice of the peace?

Oh man, AT, how cool is that? They couldn’t link to a better writer!

What that man did was an amazing thing, to just say to them “God bless all of you.”

What is going on in this country? Maybe I am insulated where I live but I thought we got past a lot of this–and I grew up south of the Mason Dixon.

I am wrong, obviously. It’s just been hiding. Lurking under the surface and waiting to peek out at the right time. And FOX has given them the ammunition to speak their racist views. And people like the billionaire Koch Brothers either wittingly or unwittingly fund this as well with their anti-health care reform junkets.

Why do these people revel in their own stupidity, blindness and hatred?

I lived most of my life in the Chicagoland region, and I thought I’d seen and heard racism, but I had no idea of what truly mindless fucks we have here in Arizona. I lost out on close to 5 years of foreman work due to testifying for a black man who was fired along with his black apprentice, for being black. It wasn’t until I hooked up with a larger contractor that I was finally promoted, but there was a huge racist clique in our local that I was glad to be evicted from. Hell, most of them put up shit work anyway, so I made out just fine by being separated from their asses. My black friends, not so much.

    Troggie,

Can I ask–what is it about Arizona? If you want to answer. I’m curious.

Margaret, I have lived in AZ twice. Once in the late 70’s and again twenty years later in the late 90’s.

I love it during the winter there. Best place in the world during the winter.

I hate the summer’s there. Worst place in the world during the summer.

Well, there ya go, Magilla. Trustee hit it on the nail. Brain sunburn!

I really don’t know why the fierce prejudice. It seems out of proportion to how few blacks are in the state, but hell, that maybe because the blacks know when they’re not wanted. It may have something to do with the Mexican immigration, but again, I really don’t know why it’s so prevalent.

Oh, and it’s coming on winter time, so how’s come the needle hit over 100 degrees yestiddy? I wanna hurry up and make fun of my more Northerly friends while they pull out the snow shovels, gotdamnit!

  12. Margaret on October 19th, 2009 7:07 am

    Troggie,

I guess your fellow Arizonans (?) forget their history and proximity to Mexico, like they do in Texas. I lived there during part of the Bush years. I didn’t have many friends.

Texas is like another country, or at least Houston and it’s environs. I lived there for a spell in 1980, and I saw and heard some very strange stuff. Blacks who were extremely polite was my first clue that we weren’t in Chi-town any more. And sure enough, it was because the pea farm was still a reality for any “boys gettin’ uppity”.

I heard lots of racial crap, but as usual, I had a great time there. The locals got a hoot outta my Chicago twang, and they’d fall on the floor laughing while I made fun of them with my version of a Texas drawl. Plus I could drink any two of them under the table, and then try and take their girlfriends home with me.

Yeah, I wasn’t always as nice as I am now. hehehehehe

We were in Dallas and my boys (even though we were in the most progressive part of town–yeah, Dallas has one of those) were coming home with jokes about Blacks and Mexicans.

But what I don’t really get is how the debate over health care has turned into “Obamacare.” This is something that benefits everyone–especially those from the most prominent Teabagging states. You notice the loudest ones have the most uninsured.

I went there Magilla, and I left a nice lily note for Stuey and his goddamned “friends”. I can just about guarantee that those three imbeciles were from the same IP address.

Just as with the FISA/Telecom Immunity bullshit, we will get pulled by the nose around in circles, thinking that someone will pull us out of this whirlpool of corporate handouts, and in the end, that’s where we’ll get it…in the end.

Unfortunately the original poster, Stuart, is pretty ill fighting cancer. He is in remission. I do not understand why he doesn’t think Dawn should be fighting for CIGNA to help her. And I won’t ever comprehend it. I have wished him well at his blog.

Margaret, I’m not going to his site, because 1) He could be lying, and ll) the fact that he thinks that Move-on members should just pitch in to help Dawn is a clear indication that he couldn’t care less about anyone but himself.

  19. Margaret on October 19th, 2009 2:00 pm

I find the disconnect between what he’s been through and a lack of understanding in Dawn’s case (especially posting to her site) to be bothersome. I decided to disengage and I wished him well.
