Mad As Hell Doctors Kick Off National Tour for Universal Health Care

September 9, 2009 by Border Explorer

Mad as Hell DoctorsThis week six dedicated Oregon physicians began to take the message of Universal Health Care “on the road” in their branded Mad as Hell Doctors Motor Home. Their destination: Washington D.C. Their goal: to start a citizen movement that will send a message to the White House and Congress. That message: Single payer is the solution. We demand it now.

Their cross-country tour stops at 28 cities enroute (see below). Locally organized events at each stop will highlight their message. The events will be videoed so they can be YouTubed, Twittered and Facebooked in an attempt to produce, as the doctors say: “an unprecedented hybrid of reality television and political activism that offers people the opportunity to follow us, in real time, as our story unfolds.”

The doctors’ grand plan is laid out on MadAsHellDoctors.com where the byline is: “This fall, the rubber gloves meet the road.”

The Mad As Hell Doctors tour will visit my home state of Iowa in Des Moines on September 15 to meet with local activists who’ve been preparing for their arrival for weeks. (Click the link to see the events lined up at the Des Moines stop.) The doctors want to hear the health care stories of the public whom they will meet as they travel across the nation.

Did you see the poll showing 63% of MD’s are in favor of the public option? And 10% are even pro single payer.

Dave, this is great info. In fact I used it already. Unfortunately, when people have their minds made up, don’t bother to hand them facts. “Facts” will bounce right off. Case in point:

Thanks for handing me that ammo. Too bad some heads are too thick to penetrate.

Billie, your comment was in the spam folder as it contains two links. Only one link per comment and your comment won’t be tossed into the spam folder. ;)

Thanks for fixing that, Dusty. I was always bad at math, but I can only count one link in my comment. Or does my last blog count as a link? If so, then we can’t link anything or it’ll go into spam?

I appreciate your help. You’re the best.

Billie, I love the “stats” from that goofball at All Voices, “(it’s amazing how much “networking” goes on among people who are in the profession – particulairly nurses,,,)”

Yeah, I can imagine his “networking” was probably stalking nursing students around college town bars.

Border Explorer, you were absolutely correct to call that wingnut out on his anecdotal bullshit. I imagine he/she has a few rightwing nursing acquaintances, and feels that their views are the only ones valid.

Thanks for your support, Guys! I really appreciate your taking the time to go look and then come back and comment here.

Yeah, what do you do with that kind of response? There is no reasoning possible. I was expressing my frustration to my husband last night and we were coming up with “smart remark” comebacks I could fantasize posting to the guy. Things like, “My doctor doesn’t think I have any medical problems or that I’ll ever have any problems so that means that I don’t have any. Gee, if I keep this doctor, maybe I’ll never die.” So much for science, just rely on anecdotal evidence.

Well, thanks for letting me vent here! I needed that.
