Keep The X In X-MAS

Wishing people a Merry X Mas pisses most off. I have heard rants about how wrong people are for leaving Christ out of a national holiday greeting. I tell those folks that I am sure the baby Jesus would probably like it if they had a great X mas. That usually drives a rage to the surface and these “Jesus lovers” suddenly become everything that Christ was against. Well, at least the stories of peace, love and understanding I grew up hearing that he taught.

Their faces change somehow and the looks they give me aren’t very nice. Sometimes I become afraid and someday an asshole will probably punch me…in the name of their savior. Red cheeked and loud some have told me  that I am going to hell and I had better start celebrating the Lords birthday. Last year some brain dead woman tried to tell me that our soldiers were in Iraq to protect her freedom to say Merry Christmas.  Some other prattle about being gawds servant and being saved comes next. But I wonder…Saved from what?

Maybe I should be saved from not facing crowds at 5 AM then fighting others who are celebrating their messiah’s birth by spending big bucks for some crappy gift that will be given to an ungrateful recipient, then regifted when a birthday of someone they don’t really like comes around.

Nope! Not that as I just am not into that tradition. Never been able to really see the reasoning in it.

Perhaps they can save me from seeing the realities of the wrongdoings by our country in places like Iraq and Afghanistan. Maybe I should be saved from noticing that the back door invasion of Pakistan by either money/arms, or our soldiers doing concentrated attacks is happening. All in the name of Christ.

Naw. I can’t be saved from knowing the wrongs of this. Jesus can’t wash away knowledge.

Most Tea Party folks claim to be Christians. You know…the people who worship a messiah whose birth is celebrated on Christmas. They also don’t think all people should have the same compassion of health care. Not if it is affordable. They might want to save me from loving my neighbor.

But since I am covered, nicely I might add, by that socialist coverage called Medicare, I wish everybody could have it as good as I do. So they can’t save me from that.

But what I get most from these people is that Christmas is more important than war. Much more important their neighbors who can’t get decent medicine. Spending for Jesus is the ultimate gesture of their faith and devotion to the gawd they worship. And to hell with anyone who stands in their way.
