christianophobia

August 30, 2008 by Betmo · 2 Comments

recently, the vatican warned of growing ‘christianophobia’ around the world and declared that it needed to fought with the same zealotry as anti-semitism, etc. normally, i would agree. i am all about religious freedom as long as you don’t infringe on mine. unfortunately, christians don’t seem able to leave well enough alone. no, they feel compelled to force their faith on others with evangelizing and proselytizing and converting people- especially in third world countries. their aid comes with strings attached and let’s face it, if i am starving, i will most likely sing hallelujah! until i have a full belly. you can force my behavior but you can’t steal my mind.

anyhoo- i thought about why folks might want to revolt against christianity- and i couldn’t come up with a single thing. nope. i came up with several- i mean besides the above mentioned issues combined with pedophilia and misuse of funds- and i am going to list them here. you can make your own conclusions about the ‘christian agenda’ and really ask yourself if these folks deserve to be left alone:

teacher on the front line as faith and science collide

christian right’s got a new stealth tactic to smuggle creationism into classes

theocratic sect prays for real armageddon- not to mention rain for dnc convention

undercover at hagee’s united for israel convention

sarah palin and feminists for life

bushco white house: birth control = abortion

judge rules doctors must treat gays in spite of religious beliefs

i am going to bet he would have fed the little boy. know why? because jesus was a compassionate being- and christians are not. the cult of christianity has sucked the life out of countless millions for millenia- and yet, because it is so deceptively easy to belong to and because of the abdication of personal responsibility, millions still keep right on believin’ in a being that does not exist. yeah, yeah, people need something to believe in, blah, blah….. you can believe in anything you want- doesn’t make it real. know what is real? children are abused and murdered every day in this country alone- in the name of christianity. watch jesus camp- or read about the christian sects in texas who married off their 12 year olds to the pedophile pastors- or read the papers about the priests who molested choir boys- or any of the countless families who have denied their children healthcare in the name of jesus.

but, betmo, these things happen even without the umbrella of christianity. yep. but apparently, this is a christian nation and christianity has been rammed down our secular throats for at least the last 8 years. the christian ‘morality’ has crashed into our political system and our legislature- the white house is attempting to get contraceptives classified as types of abortion. christianity isn’t benign in this country. what started out as a small minority group in ancient palestine has morphed into a billion dollar business industry complete with atms in the lobbies and ‘ez passes’ in the pews- wrapped up in right wing politics. make no mistake- this brand of christianity preys on scared people’s fear of change and hidden proclivities such as racism, misogyny, homophobia, etc. and it demands total allegiance and fealty- whether you are 2 years old or not. this brand of christianity is mobilizing militias and ‘armies of god’ because they have declared war on the rest of us.

continue to believe if you choose. just don’t be surprised as events unfold.

there are many, many curse words forming on my lips now

this is why i hold such contempt for christianity. this is why i speak out so disdainfully about organized religions. religions are used as control mechanisms for the ‘faithful’ sheeple. i have read proof that the heads of these organizations hold seminars in marketing and role playing- and how to target certain types of people- just like corporations. i have no patience for people who have to cling to an outdated, superstitious set of beliefs that make absolutely no sense in a scientific realm. if you are a christian, well, i will refrain from saying anything because my mom told me not to say anything at all if i can’t say something nice. just do a little research into where your money goes and for what- because those ‘missions’ you give to- probably fund bullshit like this- apparently, my tax dollars do.

‘weeping jesus on the cross’

May 25, 2008 by Betmo · 4 Comments

just when you thought christianity, american style couldn’t get ANY stupider- i ran across this gem in the google reader:

“Destined to be sold in bulk quantities to youth groups everywhere, the Cross MP3 Player is hardly designed by coincidence, and comes with 4GB of internal memory, a two-color LCD, built-in speaker, FM tuner, integrated mic, seven equalizer modes and a multi-language menu for those overseas mission trips. Fightin’ the good fight will only cost you $48.14, but you can whittle that down even more by purchasing these things by the hundreds”

i mean i thought atms in church foyers was a bit much but wow. how insecure do you have to be in your religion that you have to literally force others to participate just by your presence? it’s as bad as the morons who have subwoofers as big as their car in the trunk blasting crap rap. folks- fyi- there is no god and if there was- he wouldn’t advocate you buying crap. i am sure he would prefer if you tithed by helping out the folks who are less fortunate than you- not force craptacular, consumeristic music and products on them.

Evolution: Scapegoat of the Right

May 23, 2008 by PraetorOne · 2 Comments

When the far right goes looking for a scapegoat it doesn’t go halfway. The same people who talk about personal responsibility are the same people who blame evolution and the teaching of evolution in our class rooms for America’s social problems. That’s right friends and neighbors. The far right claims that if you teach children they are mammals they will somehow devolve into violent brutes and thugs. Additionally, many on he far right blame evolution for the eugenics and brutality of the the Third Reich and fascist Italy but that ignores the fact that those governments had hundreds of years of experience with conservative Christianity. In a similar vein those governments never completely rejected Christianity and merely adapted their versions of Christianity to adapt to the fascist regimes. In other words these were essentially Christian regimes

So what’s wrong with the far right’s take on evolution?

Well, to be perfectly frank it actually undermines the far right’s ideas about personal responsibility. Why should children bother to control themselves when the adults in their world are handing them a custom made excuse for bad behavior? “I can’t help being a violent, over-sexed thug–Charles Darwin made me do it.” Children need guidance, not excuses, and the far right, in its eagerness to blame evolution from everything from tooth decay to social decay, has managed quite nicely to provide a convenient excuse for violence and sexual promiscuity.
