This is why the DMCA sucks ass.

Fair Use is akin to civil rights. I don’t give a tinkers damn who says otherwise. To have to prove your innocence instead of them proving your guilty goes against our Constitution. From the Alternet Link above:
Rogers Cadenhead, founder and publisher of The Drudge Retort, has been Cease and Desisted by AP News for publishing fragments of their syndicated news articles and reports.
Yes, fragments, not the whole articles. Go to Rogers’ site to read the reasons given by AP.
Its all about money in the final analysis. Greedy Corporate fucking bastards. Again, from the Alternet writeup:
The DMCA’s main purpose is to circumvent due process by saying that trade laws trump civil rights law. So a corporation’s right to make money from their “product” however way they want trumps the rights of individual citizens who would want to express themselves freely about said product through comment, parody, sample or quoting.
The DMCA throws the onus of proving Fair Use on the individual “speaking” the copyrighted materials and not on the owner of the copyright. It was an unprecedented move and one that many consider anti-constitutional since it basically allows for individuals to be considered guilty of copyright infringement until they prove themselves only in a court of law to be innocent.
At the end of the Alternet writeup, they have some nasty words for ol Hillary, now a blogger at HuffPo.

with all of the other ‘issues’ in the news, the stories i focus on most often are the ones related to economy, climate change- and food. my thought is- you can live under tyrannical regimes as long as you have water, food and shelter- in that order. my concern is that we are going to get to a time when we don’t have. corporations pretty much have full reign these days- over every aspect of our lives. if you don’t believe me, well, that’s fine. you don’t have to- all you have to do is read the news. from cloned meat and genetically modified vegetables; to forcing farmers all over the world to use their seeds; to working towards buying up water, multinational corporations control the basics globally. it isn’t just about them making the goods that we buy- it’s about them owning us. think about one thing in your home that isn’t touched somehow by a corporation. go ahead.
Kentucky and coal mining

This video is the first for a blogger that goes by the name of BlueMuse
I happened on her today by chance. She is a member of the OOIBC, as I am. We carry their blogroll here on Sirens. The music in this video about the Coal mining companies is performed by her Uncle Dave Parker. Its a great video folks, and I hope you watch it all and visit BlueMuse’s blog. ITs called the Truth about Mountaintop removal. It ain’t pretty and its ecologically fucked up what we do for ‘cheap’ coal and energy. They rape not only the citizens of the area, they rape the earth.
