reproductive-freedomDr. LeRoy Carhart, a physician that has been working with Dr. George Tiller for ten years has stated he will operate Dr. Tiller’s clinic beginning next week. From McClatchy:

Carhart said he drove to Wichita last night. He met with clinic staff members and Tiller’s wife and daughters Monday morning.

“It was a really, really good meeting,” Carhart said. “It was a chance to go over all the important things and the good things George had done for each of us, and ways that we could appreciate all that he’s done for the community and the women of this country.

“His daughters and his wife are doing far better than I would be doing if I just lost my life partner or my mother or father,” he said.

Patients who had appointments this week have been notified of the clinic’s closing, and other arrangements have been made, Carhart said.

“Starting next Monday we should be back to 100 percent,” he said.

Carhart said he and two other out-of-state doctors have been rotating weekly shifts at the clinic, and that will continue.

So the anti-choice terrorists will not win this time around. Thank Buddha…

I’m just going to let this one go where it wants to go.

When I think about the murder of Dr. Tiller, who was shot and killed while attending church yesterday, I can’t help but think of his family, friends and colleagues. I can’t help but hurt for them and their loss…for the church members who will be forever changed by this terrorist attack…for his children and grandchildren who are now left with memories…and for the staff of his clinic who have been so brave in the face of vicious attacks and the constant threat of violence.

And I hurt for his wife…oh, how I hurt for that woman…who was at worship when a shot rang out and took her husband’s life in their church home.

My thoughts also turn to the impact of terrorism…to the root motivation of acts of violence that centers around increasing fear to a level that discourages action.

But my mind always returns to the work…to the patients and the practice of providing safe and affordable reproductive healthcare to women in America.

And I shall not be moved.

Oh, I am also thinking of the walk many of us take from parking lots into reproductive health clinics that are targeted by anti-choice protestors…protestors who, despite their well phrased statements of condemnation, will seek to gain power through the residue left behind when a terrorist attacks a provider.

And I know…I am absolutely certain…that I shall not be moved.

Today those of us who work for reproductive justice will continue our work with heavy hearts, mournful concern and dedicated service.

And we shall not be moved.

The struggle to protect the truth of Dr. Tiller’s work…his faith that “Women and Families are intellectually, emotionally, spiritually, and ethically competent to struggle with complex health issues — including abortion — and come to decisions that are appropriate for themselves.”…will continue.

Because we are fighting for our freedom, we shall not be moved.

Pro-life nutjobs murder Dr. George Tiller

May 31, 2009 by Dusty · 20 Comments

He has fought for a woman’s right to choose for decades. He has been charged in a court of law and beat the politcally-motivated case with an aquittal. They have shot him in both arms trying to end his practice of medicine. They have bombed his clinic and picketed his clinic regularly.

They finally silenced Dr. George. They murdered him this morning.  From MSNBC:

He was acquitted in March of misdemeanor charges stemming from procedures he performed, but moments after the verdict the state’s medical board announced it was investigating allegations against him that are nearly identical to those the jury had rejected.
Prosecutors had alleged that Tiller had in 2003 gotten second opinions from a doctor who was essentially an employee of his, not independent as state law requires, but a jury took only about an hour to find him not guilty of all 19 counts.

Tiller, who could have faced a year in jail for even one conviction, stared straight ahead as the verdicts were read, with one of his attorneys patting his shoulder after the decision on the final count was declared. His wife, seated across the courtroom, fought back tears and nodded. The couple declined to speak to reporters afterward.

Tiller, 67, has claimed that the prosecution was politically motivated. An attorney general who opposed abortion rights began the investigation into Tiller’s clinic more than four years ago, but both his successor, who filed the criminal charges, and the current attorney general support abortion rights.

Tiller has been a favored target of anti-abortion protesters, and he testified that he and his family have suffered years of harassment and threats. His clinic was the site of the 1991 “Summer of Mercy” protests marked by mass demonstrations and arrests. His clinic was bombed in 1985, and an abortion opponent shot him in both arms in 1993.

They had to kill him to silence him. Sick bastards who say they are pro-life killed Dr. George.  May they all rot in hell.

Update from the NYT:
The shooting occurred at around 10 a.m. (Central time) at Reformation Lutheran Church on the city’s East Side, Dr. Tiller’s regular church.

Wichita police said that the shots were fired from a handgun in the church lobby during the morning service. The authorities gave few details, but said they were searching for a powder blue Taurus made in the 1990s that had been seen leaving shortly after the shooting. They said witnesses had described seeing a white man departing.

How can these hypocrites say they are pro-life? How in the hell do they rationalize this sickening bullshit?
