To hope, to dream…

Dreams of an Alberto Gonzales, rotting in a prison cell.
Ok, at least squirming on the stand, on trial for breaking the law…any law will do for me when it comes to this fuckwit extraordinaire.

Steve @ The Carpetbagger Report raises a question I have been wondering about since Gonzo packed his bags and left DC..
When are the Congress critters going to finish what they started with regard to the firing of the 8 US Attorneys? Just because Abu Gonzales tucked tail and ran, it doesn’t mean that the issue is dead and done. Far from it in my humble opinion. Where are the contempt citations for Miers, Rove and Josh Bolton? Just because all the idiots involved have quit and left town( The list of people connected to the scandal who resigned their jobs includes Ms. Miers; Mr. Rove; Kyle Sampson, the chief of staff to then-Attorney General Alberto Gonzales; Monica Goodling, the Justice Department’s White House liaison; and Mr. Gonzales himself.) , it’s no reason to drop the damn ball on the hearing and contempt front.
Steve links to a recent NYT editorial on this subject in his writeup. I just did the same. Its a worthwhile read, but just a few of the highlights:
The primary responsibility for giving the public the final answers about what happened, and assurances that it will not happen again, lies with Attorney General Michael Mukasey, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid.
Over the course of the year, considerable evidence emerged that the Bush administration did what seemed unthinkable: it used federal prosecutors, who are supposed to be scrupulously nonpartisan, to help the Republican Party win elections. As many as nine United States attorneys were fired, apparently because they brought cases against powerful Republicans or refused to bring cases that would hurt Democrats.
Too much was done that was illegal and immoral. The politicization of the Justice Dept occurred, and its the most reprehensible action that has occurred under the rule of BushCo imho. Yes, Mukasey has instituted a checks and balances rule that limits the White House’s contact with employees of the Justice Department..but frankly…its akin to closing the door after the horse has taken off.
Heads must roll over all the bullshit and bravado that went down. Nothing less will be acceptable.

YAY!!! I can be thankful for these students who disrupted Alberto Gonzales’ speech at the University of FL. on Monday evening. From the CommonDreams writeup linked above:
In his first appearance at a university since resigning in August, former U.S. Attorney General Alberto Gonzales was met at UF on Monday with a mixture of cheers, boos and scattered interruptions by protesters, two of whom were arrested.1120 11Gonzales, who resigned from his position after a controversial tenure, spoke to more than 800 people at the Phillips Center for the Performing Arts.
During his prepared speech, Gonzales largely avoided discussing the controversies he faced in office, including his dismissal of nine U.S. attorneys. Watch the videos after the fold and in the second one, listen to the BOOs at the end of his speech. The school paid Berto $40 grand to show up..which came from student tuitions according to the first video which is a news station’s footage.
