KO and Tweety out as anchors for Election Coverage

September 7, 2008 by Dusty · 3 Comments

Well shit, HuffPo is reporting:

MSNBC tried a bold experiment this year by putting two politically incendiary hosts, Keith Olbermann and Chris Matthews, in the anchor chair to lead the cable news channel’s coverage of the election.

That experiment appears to be over.

After months of accusations of political bias and simmering animosity between MSNBC and its parent network NBC, the channel decided over the weekend that the NBC News correspondent and MSNBC host David Gregory would anchor news coverage of the coming debates and election night. Mr. Olbermann and Mr. Matthews will remain as analysts during the coverage.

I won’t be shedding a tear over Tweety but KO…man, that hurts.

KO has tax problems…

June 2, 2008 by Dusty · 2 Comments

Before the rightwing nutjobs jump on this, I thought I might put it out there. KO owes some back taxes. From TV Newser:

Page Six picks up the reports about Keith Olbermann’s taxing problems.

OlbermannWatch.com reports that New York state has issued a tax warrant or judgment against the MSNBC host for $2,269.50 in back taxes owed by his personal corporation, Olbermann Broadcasting Empire Inc. “This was a bookkeeping disagreement between Keith’s accountants and the state which was resolved months ago,” an MSNBC spokesman told Page Six.

Olbermann Watch also reported a second judgment against Olbermann, going back almost eight years, that has since been resolved.

KOs new book, a small excerpt..

December 22, 2007 by Dusty · 1 Comment

Its about his Special Comments on Countdown among other things, according to the MSNBC writeup. A small quote from the beginning of the article:

In Truth and Consequences, Keith Olbermann collects the best of his Special Comments, presented with additional observations and other new material.

The writeup is a four-pager, so check it out if your interested. Just to pique your interest, another snippet:

Then the plotline in Iraq turned out to be not just phony, but also ridiculous. Not only were there no weapons of mass destruction, but the chemical warfare the generals and ex-generals nightly told us to expect also never materialized. Saddam Hussein not only had no offensive weapons, he didn’t have many defensive ones. That summer, when it turned out our troops had staged a lightning raid to “save” Private Jessica Lynch from an Iraqi “military hospital” that didn’t even have a Nurse Ratched in it, we broadcast the revised history as reported by a Canadian newspaper—the first TV news outlet in the country, I think, to do so. The right-wing water-carriers buffeted our management, and our management buffeted me.

In other book-related news..lol..Rove didn’t get the three million book advance he thought he was getting..try half that. Warms the cockles of my little black heart don’t ya know? ;)

To watch Keith Olbermann’s Special Comment on Daniel Levin, torture and waterboarding, click here if the video isn’t working.

From ThinkProgress..on the eve of the vote on Mukasey..we hope..dare we pray, that this question will be at the forefront of the vote to deny this man the office of Attorney General of these United States; Is waterboarding torture Mr. Mukasey and do you support it? 24 Intel officials say DO NOT confirm this man in a letter to committee chair. From the Think Progress writeup:

Last night, ABC World News reported that in 2004 then-acting assistant attorney general Daniel Levin was so concerned about the administration’s use of waterboarding that he went to a military base near Washington and underwent the procedure himself.

Levin took over former Office of Legal Counsel Jack Goldsmith’s job when he resigned and immediately began reassessing the administration’s interrogation techniques. Levin released a new memo in Dec. 2004 that replaced the 2002 Bybee memo. Levin’s memo declared that “Torture is abhorrent” but also cautioned in a footnote that his memo was not declaring the administration’s previous opinions illegal. “The White House, with Alberto Gonzales as the White House counsel, insisted that this footnote be included in the memo.”

ABC reported that after Levin personally experienced waterboarding, he told the White House that it could be considered torture:

After the experience, Levin told White House officials that even though he knew he wouldn’t die, he found the experience terrifying and thought that it clearly simulated drowning.
