The Gruppenführer vs. The Geezer
February 10, 2010 by Jolly Roger · 1 Comment
John McCain may have fatally injured his chances for remaining a Rushpubliscum politician a couple of years ago, when he backed Chimpy’s immigration reform.
Backing immigration reform isn’t a real good idea for an Arizona Rushpubliscum. The Klanservatives of Arizona prefer their politicians to be racist xenophobes, which is why Gruppenführer Arpaio looks increasingly like he’s going to be their next Gauleiter Governor.
In the meantime, the Gruppenführer is doing his part to purify the Arizona Rushpubliscum Party by throwing his weight behind J.D. Hayworth, a candidate who is much more to the liking of the racist, xenophobic “teabagger” set that dominates Arizona Rushpubliscum politics these days.
I never thought Dick Armey, Caribou Barbie, and I could agree on anything, but we agree on this most narrow of issues. McCain is a better Senatorial candidate than Hayworth is.
The Gruppenführer’s endorsement leaves no doubt as to that.
As expected, Maricopa County Sheriff Joe Arpaio is lending his internationally known name to Republican Senate challenger J.D. Hayworth’s national campaign fundraising efforts. Arpaio and Hayworth are both vocal GOP critics of illegal immigration and, significantly, Arpaio has been feuding with incumbent Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., for years.
From a Feb 2 letter signed by Arpaio:
“I just wish Senator McCain had run as hard against that dirty subhuman Barack Obama as he is against a loyal Sturmer conservative like J.D. That could have prevented the dirty darkie’s election harmful, liberal agenda we are all now suffering through.
You have been a great supporter of mine. Now I am hoping you will become a great supporter of J.D.’s. I have attended rallies and burnt crosses with known him for many years. I trust him.
“And I know he is a proper Aryan like me exactly what we need in Washington, D.C. right now.”
In December, Arpaio headlined a benefit to help pay off legal bills Hayworth accumulated while preparing for a possible federal investigation in connection with the Jack Abramoff lobbyist-corruption scandal. In 2008, Arpaio campaigned on behalf of McCain presidential rival Mitt Romney in the key early caucus and primary states of Iowa and New Hampshire.
In a pre-emptive move, McCain on Jan. 14 touted the endorsements of eight other Republican sheriffs from around Arizona. McCain also has secured the support of big Republican names such as former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, Sen. Scott Brown of Massachusetts and former House Majority Leader Dick Armey.
The ideal way to deal with this would be to get rid of McCain entirely, but….. there are worse outcomes than McCain. Obviously.
Given the affection of Arizona Ruushpubliscums for the Gruppenführer, I really have to wonder if they all don’t have white sheets and hoods hanging in their closets. Seriously. They think the Gruppenführer is such a great Sheriff, while kidnappers run rampant in the Gruppenführer’s back yard. So it couldn’t be because of his law enforcement prowess, could it?
No, of course it isn’t. And we know exactly what it IS about the Gruppenführer that his minions hold so dear.

Kinda pleased to have the Obama presidential win as the most important thing that happened in the world this past year. With the collapsing economy trying to steal his limelight, his historic election still tops my list of historical hysterics we watched in 2008. I had a good friend “break up” with me, in an e-mail no less, because of my views about McCain and the atrocious way his votes treat the troops who are fighting for what they believe is our freedom. Although I cast my vote for the Green Party’s Cynthia McKinney it pleased me to see how the country was so hungry for some kind of change they voted in our first black president. Hopefully he tries to keep his promise of change even if he is surrounding himself with the good ol’ backroom boys of our capitol.
(The new bosses just before they came onstage in Chicago Nov. 4, 2008)
The Who “Wont Get Fooled Again”
The destruction of the American economy by the backroom boys (yes…if there are any women who helped shape the policies that caused this disaster I still call each of them a backroom boy as well.) comes up in second place as the most newsmaking story this year. Thousands lost their homes and jobs this year so the C.E.O.’s could take home billions in bonuses.
The only upside to folks losing their homes, jobs being cut, the collapse and bailouts etc. is they came just before the elections. John McClone and the You Betcha Babe were gaining on the “nigra boy” but his cronies part in the economic doom tainted the vote and even the hardcore racists had to look closer at promised “change”. (The racism in that statement came from a conversation with my mom who called Obama that all the time. Now she is forced to say “Our President”.)
The wars in Afghanistan and Iraq still raged on. March saw the number of troops killed in Iraq reach the 4000 mark and the election news smothered the outrage that I thought would have had the American people marching in the streets demanding the end of this atrocity based on lies and deceit. During this time the press kept us appeased with the ridiculous crap from the primary trail. President Bushit said all of the things the war machine wanted to hear and so did the candidates. Alien Trucker even posted a Pink song on this blog. The only Pink song I have ever thought listenable. It carries such a message I am going to repost it here and hope Mr. Obama listens to it as well, and considers taking that walk with Pink…or any regular world citizen…every day.
Hurricane Gustav visited the Gulf Coast in September and found many many homes and businesses there still bearing the “blue roof”. You know…the big tarps that were put there after Katrina 3 years ago to keep residents dry while waiting on FEMA or the insurance money to come through so they can be repaired. Funds that were supposed to go there have been diverted many times over and still the destruction has no fix. Even the beautiful Sanger Theater in New Orleans, the site of many a great song played for us, is still un-renovated because the people need housing worse than the entertainment that plays, dance or Government Mule can offer.
(Filmed at the Sanger)
Unemployment and homeless rates rose higher than they have in decades. Businesses and factories around the nation have cut back production or closed completely. Folks have taken to robbing or begging just to get by. More than one have robbed someone or asked to take a shift at the Cumberland Mine just to make a house payment.
The price of crude oil topped $100 a barrel and plummeted down again by mid-December. In the midst of financial hardship Americans paid the highest at the pump in our history and are now being thankful that prices are down again…to higher than they were five years ago.
California’s Proposition 8 won. WON!?!?? I believe it was a huge loss on the civil rights front as it shows that bigotry and prejudice is not a thing of the past. Backed by Big Religion the “moral” right fought civil rights again basing their hatred on Old Testament hatred. IT’S 2008 PEOPLE! Those laws handed down by “GAWD” are ancient and really have no part in today’s law making.
So as we make our way into 2009 and all of the marvels and wonder it brings I am not so sure we have loads to celebrate. I am looking forward to seeing the change the new administration brings. I do see that after a while of beans and rice I may be able to afford some chicken by the end of the year. Not everything is doom and dismay. Sometimes it just seems that way.
These are just a few of the important stories of the year. I really didn’t want to go into speculating how they would influence 2009 so I just stopped here.
I really hope it gets better.

President Elect Barack H Obama speaking about Pakistan. August 1, 2008, on the campaign trail
Today Secretary Of State Rice said the minds behind the attacks in India must be brought to justice. The attackers base is reported to be in Pakistan
Over the past few weeks US planes, based in Afghanistan, have flown attack missions into Pakistan.
Mr. Obama has said he will have all combat troops out of Iraq in 16 months. He repeated that this morning after publicly announcing he will keep Robert Gates on as Defense Secretary. The theories abound. Hell…I have a few myself. After all, how can a guy live in Roswell and not start thinking like a conspiracy theorist. I am surrounded by that attitude daily here.
I have heard, read and thought about these things coming together for a while. From the beginning, when I heard that Osama bin Laden had moved to Pakistan, I was sure George W Bush would invade there as well. Then I realized he couldn’t. He had been exposed to the world as a warmongering fool with a grudge against Hussein that used his military to overthrow him. After all, daddy got humiliated by Saddam a few years ago and needed to have his honor avenged.
But how long has the machine had Pakistan in its sights and to what extent did they go to insure John McBush wasn’t our Commander In Chief? How could a Bushie lead us into war with yet another country without being questioned? A fresh face with the promise of change on his lips can sell it better than the Same Ol’ Same Ol’. They couldn’t put Hillary Clinton in there now as they have different plans for her down the road.
After the attacks in India this past holiday weekend, invading Pakistan seems imminent. The pre warning by Obama before he was elected. The withdrawal of troops from Iraq to Afghanistan as promised. The rumors of bin Laden in Pakistan instead of Afghanistan. The necessity of placing another American friendly puppet government into a volitale anti western area. The proximity of Afghanistan bases to Pakistan. The sell to the American masses will be easy.
It HAS been proven to us that the invasion of Iraq was based on lies and deceit. Americans, and the rest of the world Do feel our invasion of Afghanistan had merit because al-Quaida was “based” there. An invasion of Pakistan WOULD be okayed by the world.
Because…who knows?
Maybe this time we’ll find Osama bin Laden.

normally, i would have all sorts of wonderful words of wisdom- but i really think that this video speaks for itself. i cannot fathom how this nation has lived under one of these asshats for 8 long years with the country reduced to ruin- and still- swaths of people vote for his wannabe successor.

“…he accused Obama of “inciting class warfare” and said that “liberals hate real Americans that work and achieve and believe in God.”

Video at the bottom of the writeup.
Appearing on “Meet the Press,” former Secretary of State Gen. Colin Powell says he’s voting for Democrat Barack Obama.
General Powell even gave money to McCain at the outset of the campaign! Powell, who isn’t without his own demons in the run-up to Iraq, lays out every single thing that is wrong with the Republican partys move to the extreme right, Sarah Palin and John McCain and his message, his flip-flopping on the economy..its all here in this six minute statement. He mentions it all folks…every last sickening, disgusting thing wrong with the reichwing nutjobs who control the Republican Party and evidently John McCain.
And for that, I am glad, even happy. Powell has, as I said, responsibility for the lies that led us into the war in Iraq. He never spoke publicly about his fears until it was too late..but he did sort of ‘redeem’ himself this morning on Meet the Press.
IF that doesn’t piss off the Rethugs, perhaps Obama’s latest financial statement will:
Obama raises record $150 million
Fuck you John McCain, and your little lap dog Palin too.

The last presidential debate is over. Fewer people watched this debate than watched the second. Most people think that Barack Obama was the more successful debater. And, because that is the case, the Republican smear machine is still in operation, according to Wired.com (#).
E-mail smears have targeted Obama’s patriotism since his presidential run began, but the Sacramento website appears to be the first case of the smears being openly adopted by an official GOP organization. The attacks come as polling shows voters growing increasingly impatient with the perceived negative tone of Obama rival John McCain’s campaign, following attacks seeking to link Obama to a former 1960’s radical.
Truth squads are out. There are websites dedicated to that work. Television networks make some attempts to help viewers sort fact from fiction. Attempts to define Barack Obama as somehow dangerous are back-firing. Recent weeks have proven that racism remains a nasty reality* in far too many places#. And it was unleased# by the McCain campaign#. John McCain has been playing with fire.# People worry about the potential for violence#. Moreover, McCain is losing credibility as a true maverick with the general public, and also with many in the mainstream media*.
“Joe the Plumber” is on the hotseat, along with Sarah Palin,# according to Yahoo! News#. Joe is actually a worker. He is not a licensed plumber, and several government entities that have jurisdiction are probing further. Veep candidate, Sarah Palin, is also having major ethics problems#. Palin’s problems are turning out to be the perfect example of that old saw, “the pot calling the kettle black*.”
TV ad buys for presidential candidates are in a state of flux. It is quite a contrast. Obama is going to be speaking to the nation on many major networks for a half hour soon. And the Republicans are forced to cut back on any advertising in several states. Voting has begun for many people. Many people worry that the Republicans will somehow steal the election#. There are predictions that there will be major voting problems, a possible “major meltdown, according to Yahoo News# Time magazine reports that college students will be particularly affected, “facing major stumbling blocks#.”
President George W. Bush has 94 days left in office. There have been 4185 military deaths in the Iraq war since March of 2003. And in 18 days it will be Election Day. Get the picture?

ok, i watched 2 out of the 3 presidential debates and the vp debate- and i don’t really feel enlightened. the one and only thing i took from all of the debates- obama and biden sounded rational, logical and actually made attempts to answer the question asked. obama/biden seem sincere in wanting to reunite americans with each other but i don’t have that audacity to hope. don’t get me wrong, i believe that most americans are going to vote for barack obama because they know (after being beaten over the head repeatedly until there is no denial left) that this country and the planet is in real trouble. most people are beginning to get an inkling that we really need to do something radical about the way we live and what we believe in because this nation is bringing the rest of the globe down and folks elsewhere are understandably upset. i think that america, as a whole, is starting to get that. then there’s the fringe…….
you know, the ones mccain is proud of? there is a powerful minority in this country that has taken over- bushco and rove lead them. their minions are so powerless that they cling to these morally bankrupt and ethically corrupt wealthy elite as if they were part of the group. guilt by association is what they are going for. they are not going to fade back into the woodwork- they are at war with america and the rest of the planet. and, my opinion is, they have won. oh, the minions don’t realize it- they are still chanting racial epithets and slurs at the palin rallies- but the top tier elite who have really been pulling the strings- have won. see, they have made sweeping changes to this country. they have bankrupted and collapsed everything and anything that was good about america. they have shredded the constitution. it’s predominately the right but there are those cheshire cats on the left who leave behind their smile after press conferences extolling how they had no choice but to abdicate any and all power to the executive branch yet again.
and now, we have the u.s. army stationed in america as active duty and you have blackwater mercenaries patrolling the streets of america alongside local law enforcement and federal- and you have any number of new ‘non-lethal’ weapons to be used as deterrants to large gatherings of people. how many folks believe that the next administration and congress will roll back the tide of power to within the true framework of the constitution? how many people believe that even in an economic collapse that the new government will gut the single biggest drain on the taxpayers- the military complex comprised of homeland security and the dod?
many folks have put much time, money and effort into getting obama/biden elected and the local dems in local and state races. and that’s ok. what we need to do as we wind down- think about what we are going to do post election. not just gear up for the holidays as a sigh of relief that the silly season is finally over- but what are we going to do to continue the forward momentum? a big fear that i have is that people will sink back into a false sense of complacency that bushco is gone and mccain/palin have been defeated. most of bush’s admin have already been recycled into think tanks, news punditry, policy wonks, professors, etc. with the rest soon to follow. if you think that after 30 years of working towards world domination that they will rest on their 12 years of laurels- i have a bridge to nowhere to sell ya. you betcha!
these folks are in a state of perpetual warfare with anyone and everyone who don’t go along with their worldview and their agenda- and they are in large part- controlling the financial sector; the corporate sector; the lobbying sector; etc. and my question is- are we ready to continue the fight? will we be strong enough to do what it takes to defend our families? or will we fold and take a vacation?
Sphere: Related ContentWhen “eloquence” is an epithet –
October 16, 2008 by Gee Carol · 5 Comments
The last debate between the two presidential candidates, Senator Barack Obama (D-IL) and Senator John McCain (R-AZ), is over. The panels and pundits have had their say, the polls have been ennumerated, and the TV replays are on the way. Since I have the floor, here are my impressions. The contrasts I see are between form and substance, between shooting from the hip and fluent expression.
Candidate form was in the eye of the “commentaria.” Opinion makers looked at how the men spoke more that what each said. TV opinion posited that the difference seemed to be indicated by what was visible on viewers’ split screens. There was Obama’s unflappability and McCain’s edgy emotional reactions of anger, disdain and dismissiveness. The initial responses of both CNN and MSNBC, as I flipped back and forth, were that Senator McCain’s performance was a definite improvement, and that Senator Obama’s performance was rather flat. Many thought that McCain prevailed at the beginning. He did seem to be in good form, his thoughts persuasively expressed. Many liked the way Bob Schieffer handled the moderator’s role.
Candidate substance was in the eye of the “publica.” After the first responses of the pundits, the instant polls and the focus group results began to emerge, the tide turned toward an apparent Obama win. It seems that the public watched the debate somewhat differently than the TV commentary community. The viewing public did not like the candidates’ attacks and defenses nearly as much as the core subtstantive content. Approval went up when the debate focused on the issues, particularly the economy. What won the public’s approval, once again was Obama’s eloquence, marked by forceful and fluent expression.
Form vs. substance: The challenge that “Joe the Plumber” faces in trying to start a business became one of McCain’s talking points. Obama’s focus with each new theme introduced by the moderator was a specific plan, eloquently laid out. He stayed on message, while McCain was trying everything to get under Obama’s skin. Once again, it became very clear that, to the very serious problems facing the people of the U.S., McCain’s lack of answers, his garbled and inarticulate responses, are in stark contrast to Obama’s wide-ranging and specific ideas. Eventually McCain took up the theme of Obama’s “eloquence,” using it over and over as a kind of disdainful epithet for deceitfulness.
The word “eloquence” was used by Senator McCain, for example, in completely dismissive comments about the issue of the “health of the woman” in Roe vs. Wade. He used it as reverse snobbery shorthand for manipulation or deceit, and it was very insulting. Senator McCain’s revealing misuse of the word eloquence as an insult is a good clue to how little the man offers to a potential presidency.
With what are left? We have 19 days until the election, 95 more days of the Bush presidency, and $562,900,440,000 (and rapidly counting) money spent on the war in Iraq. We have stock markets around the world going down again. Out own lost 733 points yesterday. We have Congress campaigning, Democrats optimistic and Republicans pessimistic.
We have experienced 8 years of a rampant epidemic of “dumb.” A vaccine is on the horizon, “eloquence.” In its correct usage, according to Webster’s Dictionary, it means “1) marked by forceful and fluent expression, 2) discourse maked by force and persuasiveness, 3) vividly or movingly expressive or revealing.” The choice is clear. Go with Webster. Eloquence will never be an epithet.

Flailing, Flailing, Over the Bounding Waves
October 13, 2008 by Gee Carol · 3 Comments
We do not know what the McCain-Palin ticket will do next.
Senator McCain flails around in a dark sea of desperation. A couple of my favorite writers posted descriptions of all the goings-on that have all of us political junkies scratching our heads in amazement. To begin “If at first you don’t succeed –,” at The Washington Monthly, is written by Steve Benen, 10/12/08. Benen discusses McCain’s several rather lame attempts to propose something coherent for the economic crisis. To quote:
In each instance, McCain seemed very excited about his latest thought, touted it for about a day, faced resistance from those who pointed out that McCain didn’t appear to know what he was talking about; and then forgot about his idea soon after. A day or two later, he’d start the cycle over again with some new idea.
Now he’s poised to offer yet another proposal, based at least in part on tax cuts on capital gains that don’t actually exist in the midst of a financial collapse.
McCain has simply gone from one ridiculous notion to another, flailing around, desperately looking for something coherent to say. It’s not working.
The Politico added, “McCain’s new package would amount to a do-over from the hasty introduction of McCain’s mortgage buy-up program.”
We’re 23 days from Election Day, and McCain is looking for “do-overs” on economic policy in the middle of a financial crisis? Seriously?
Report stings Palin over Troopergate# — The report said that Governor Palin “abused her official powers.” The findings of the report were not surprising*, actually, in light of Palin’s rather transparent ambition#. And, of course, McCain has his own (Keating) scandal# lurking back there in the past. Now these two “match,” in a way. This post, on how the report might affect the outcome of the election, is from Marcie at emptywheel.firedoglake.com, written on 10/10/08. Near the end she questions his maverick credentials,# as others have in the past. To quote her four main points:
First, I sort of suspect that John McCain may have been warned TrooperGate might break badly today, when he decided mid-day to put his legacy ahead of his ego. . . [defending Obama]. . .
Second, at least for the moment, the McCain team is standing behind Palin. They released a statement that claimed that the report had found Palin had not done anything wrong, that the investigation was partisan, and that Palin looked forward to the Personnel Board investigation results as she continues her conversation with the American people. . .
. . . my third point. McCain’s whole campaign since he picked Palin was about “mavericks” who take on the old way of doing things. Was. That’s not going to work anymore. So now he’s got an unqualified but charismatic fundie fire breather, but a really tainted claim to maverickyness . . .
So point four. At some point, the Republicans are going to decide that McCain’s going to lose, and they need to save as many of the congressional seats as they can. They’ve already started pulling advertising out of toss up Congressional districts. . .
So to sum up: earlier today, there was a ceiling for Obama’s support. But I think that roof just got raised.
We do know that the McCain-Palin ticket will do almost anything to win. Senator McCain flails around, seemingly markedly out of touch and willing to risk too much. Recent descriptions of the abominable way that Palin has incited anger in the crowds to whom she speaks, make knots in my stomach. And I was deeply grateful that McCain was willing to do something about it. It left me scratching my head in amazement. It will be interesting to see what Palin will be able to come up with in her next high-wire act.

There are a bunch of reasons I hate the idea of John McCain being the next president. His palling around with the Bush/Cheney bunch is one. The fact that he wants to keep our troops in Iraq for a long long time is another. I really don’t like his ideals or the way he panders to those who would take away womens rights. But the biggest reason I hate the threat of a McCain administration is he is fucking old.
Now, don’t get me wrong here. I am not saying his age would keep him from leading us down that road to hell even faster than the Cheney administration has. Not trying to say a 70 plus man couldn’t make a few decent decisions and even sponsor a bill or two that may do our nation good.
Look at Ted Kennedy for example. He has done many good things, even in his later years. Some screwed up things too but good over all. But he is old now as well and I would probably be scared if he was running for POTUS. See…old dudes tend to have a bigger chance of dying soon.
I am one of a huge, and growing group of Americans who see the big probability of Sarah Palin becoming the successor to the vacated office John would leave if he died. The majority of us are more frightened of her than of him. Her constant babbling shows she is not ready to be the Supreme Figurehead. In fact we realize she will never be ready.
I was playing around on the internet today and saw some stuff that scared me. A lot of you have probably seen the footage of her speaking at the church graduation where she is a member. Thats some scary stuff.
I mean it “is gawds will” that a pipeline goes up in Alaska. The war in Iraq is an annointed mission that is also gawds will. A holy war if you will.
With the announcement of Alaska officials that she violated laws and abused her power in getting her family grudge settled I grew even more fearful of a McCain presidency. If she will violate rules and judicial proceedures on a state level how many federal and international regulations and treaties will she break? Will she take the Bush/Cheney Executive priveledge to even more horrific levels? Will she expand the holy war already being fought in the Middle East to a world wide destructive level?
I think she would. I think the blessings given her by her former pastor and the re blessing of the current one is her “Voice From Gawddd”. These men are the ones running her life and thoughts…well…at least until now. She has more right wing powerful religious zealots backing her now. And the are gonna back her until they use her to bring the Bible’s Book Of Revelation to pass. At least thats how the Assemblies Of God churches believe it will happen and most will back her to the death…of the world.
Use your favorite search engine to check out her churches (the Wasilla Assembly Of God) “Master Commission” program that she is a degree holder in. See if that doesn’t scare you a bit. Then sit back and imagine if the McCain/Palin ticket gets voted in. Hell…she may even have him offed so she can be the one to usher in the Armageddon of prophesy.
After all her Master certificate says she is now one of “Gawds Prophets”.
Fuck all of the P C crowd that defends the McCain ticket us “Agists”. I am just wanting the best for my country.
And she ain’t it.

at the most recent palin/mccain rally in iowa, mccain said to the crowd that ‘protesters just don’t get it.’ love to know what your definition of ‘it’ is because there are millions of people who ‘get’ what you are all about. you don’t have a platform to run on so you have tried to run over everyone who is getting in your way of all out war on the american people to get to the white house. that’s really the bottom line for you. ‘country first’ is a big fat joke because if you put country first, you wouldn’t have been running a campaign based on lies, innuendo, corruption, hate, racism, sexism, etc. oh, we get what you are all about. you don’t have the guts to call out a man to his face, but you have every woman on your staff, including your wife, take him on safely surrounded by your minions chanting death threats and spewing venom. and then, you back away like a kid caught with his hand in the cookie jar while your minions- that you have just whipped into a frenzy- attack your opponent’s campaign with physical violence.
so, please, by all means continue your downward spiral into hell- because you sold your soul to the rovian devil and sowed the seeds of discord into the wind. now, you are reaping the whirlwind that you sowed. but we get you. we get you all the way. we just don’t want your kind around here anymore.

we have been bombarded from all sides lately- election crap, economy, corruption and erosion of civil liberties… the list goes on and on. i have a sneaking suspicion that all of us just want the damned election to be over- the damned holidays to be over- and the damned depression to be over. but we would still be left with a significant mess. stop and think for a moment and sift through all of the senses that have just been overloaded- and what you are left with is a bigger problem than the economy or the election. it’s us as a nation.
we, on the left, like to think that we are above the knuckle draggers on the right- the ones we continue to see played over and over on youtube. but we aren’t. we aren’t because we have closet knuckle draggers on our side. the ones who blah, blah, blah about inclusion and sing kumbaya but then work to exclude people of color from actually participating. i have heard that allegation many times from women of color and lgbt women regarding the feminist movement and it was complained about in the last few elections from ‘minority’ folks who felt ignored by the democratic party until election time. not only that, but we have allowed the rabid right wing base to take over this country through our inactivity and lack of engagment for decades. we treated our civic duties the way we treat our children- hands off and an accessory to our lives while we go to work in our suv and then to the all included cruise to the bahamas every year. it’s up to someone else to deal with- and the rest of the world be damned. yes, dems are as guilty as the rethugs.
i am always interested in points of view that aren’t american or are americans abroad observing. ‘young americans abroad‘ expresses the arrogance that many talk about when describing americans in general- and the jingoistic nationalism at palin rallies just drives that home. and palin seems to naturally gravitate towards that group- the nationalistic, white supremacists who tote guns and call themselves ‘middle class’- who don’t necessarily want women in positions of power but hey, it’s better than a black muslim arab terrorist guy, right?
we, on the left, played politics as usual for decades- we just sat by and grumbled and griped and waited it out until the next election. something finally dawned on us though- there may not be anymore elections if we don’t get ourselves involved. unfortunately, it came too late- because the legislation passed is almost impossible to overturn now- even if the folks who take over were of the mind to try. and i doubt that they would be. unbridled power is heady stuff. so, like it or not, america is what we never wanted to believe or face- it is not the best and brightest; it is not the beacon of democracy or a shining example to the world; it is a wannabe empire that has no regard for non westerners and non whites and wants what it wants of the world’s resources and starving children in africa be damned! and our only hope is that the world doesn’t stop being hospitable to life before the inmates stop running the asylum. ’cause the inmates are us. and the left is just as guilty as the right for buying into the ‘fighting terror over there so we don’t have to fight over here’ and ruin our middle class, suburban way of life. and, just like john mccain- we have sown the wind and are now reaping the whirlwind.

it’s all they have left- the grand old party of white men and women. it isn’t a stretch for bible spice because i am sure that there aren’t many non whites left in alaska and the ones who are- are mired in poverty on the outskirts of civilization. as for the top of the ticket, old spice isn’t known for his winning personality- and it is evident he doesn’t care much for his adopted daughter. you rarely see her on the campaign trail and it was a big issue back in the 2000 campaign. but, this is last chance for old spice- so, he is pulling out all of the dirty tricks from his bag. it doesn’t matter if they have been debunked 800 times. the rethug mantra is to repeat, repeat, repeat until the masses believe it’s true.
“Needless to say I was irritated at his large ego and his rude behavior towards his wife and other women, but decided he must have some redeeming qualities as he had adopted a handicapped child from Bangladesh. I asked him about this one day, and his response was shocking: “Oh, that was Cindy’s idea I didn’t have anything to do with it. She just went and adopted this thing without even asking me. You can’t imagine how people stare when I wheel this ugly, black thing around in a shopping cart in Arizona. No, it wasn’t my idea at all.“
