By request – Debunking Acceptable Blackness through the second coming of the Rev. Wright drama…

May Buddha Bless Shark Fu..she is so eloquent and if only we all could be as eloquent as she is~Dusty
This bitch is stressed the fuck out with work-based things.
Fuck a duck, where’s a large bar of chocolate when you need one?
Shit.
Anyhoo, a certain Peterr sent this bitch an e-mail asking for my take on the second coming of the Rev. Wright drama and was specifically interested in whether this has anything to do with Acceptable Blackness.
Well Peterr, this bitch thinks it does.
Shall we?
A bitch has blogged about Acceptable Blackness before and how the concept pisses me the fuck off. Basically, acceptable blackness is the grown up version of the bullshit some white students used to toss at this bitch when we were in Junior High and they were feeling threatened by the black students being bused in from the city.
“Why can’t they be black like you, Shark-Fu? They sound so mad and I don’t understand them and they dress weird and blah blah followed by blah.”
I realized rather quickly that my fellow students mistook my “proper” speech and my adoration of preppified pastel fashion (shit, it was a phase…mercy) as some other kind of less threatening and more acceptable blackness.
But they were wrong.

“I think they wanted to communicate that I am unpatriotic, that I am un-American,
that I am filled with hate speech, that I have a cult at Trinity United Church of Christ.
And by the way, guess who goes to his church, hint, hint, hint? That’s what they wanted to communicate.”
-Rev. Jeremiah Wright
I will be watching this Friday evening. I find Rev. Wright to be a fascinating individual. I am not afraid of what he has to say and frankly, I don’t buy into the bullshit currently out there as 5 or 10 second soundbites by the assholes in the MainStreamMedia. Context is everything people!

A huge tip of the hat to Jet over at BIO and a contributor to Sirens. She has this video up of Rev. Wright which shows how Fox Noise takes it out of context. The rest of the video puts the entire speech in context for you..and I want to know..where is he lying? He isn’t lying as far as I can hear and see..he is speaking the truth. We are controlled by rich white folks..those are the folks that own the Corporatocracy. Its a long video..but it has to be, to get his entire message in context people!

i guess i have a real problem with white folks crying over the words of black folks. i mean, seriously, did you actually listen to barack obama’s speech? reverend wright’s? or did you base your opinions on the ad nauseum coverage of the largely white news pundits working for largely white corporate sponsors? spare me the indignation. let’s lay it all out here- naked and bare in the light- racism exists- whether you are black, white, yellow, brown, purple or whatever. white folks discriminate against black people; black people discriminate against asian folks; asian folks discriminate against latino folks….. and the circle of life goes on. so, before we get all holier than thou about how liberal and progressive we are- and how horrible it is for reverend wright to say ‘god damned america’- let’s get a bit of perspective.
i am a white woman. i have never knowingly in my life experienced racism, misogyny, or classism. i have never felt, in my life, less than or that i couldn’t do anything i damned well pleased. i have pretty near always had what i needed and since i became an adult- i have had what i wanted. i lock my car doors. i lock my home door and windows. if i am walking alone, i cross the street when approached– by anyone. why? because i am a woman. i worked in an inpatient psych unit and i worked in a field with kid’s who had very troubled parents. i am aware of my surroundings and i don’t really give a shit if you are black, white or purple- if there are more than 2 of you- i cross. men or women. i am lucky. how many people of color can say the same thing? how about talking to some of the native american tribes who live on reservations in this country. there are several here in new york state- these folks live in abject poverty. how about the legal americans who happen to be migrant workers or meat plant packers in this country? they don’t live in gated communities where many may work as au pairs or lawn folks. you can feel self righteous that you don’t behave that way if you want- but many in this country do.

Today’s sermon is by that wonderful woman Shark Fu..I am busy making my YouTube for tomorrows Iraq Blogswarm..so enjoy this..even if it is a day late~Dusty
Happy St. Pats Day to all y’all. We’ve rain in St. Louis, but something tells me that it won’t delay the party in Dogtown (wink).
Anyhoo…
A bitch caught up with all things political and chat-able Sunday afternoon and hot damn there was a lot of drama! The sum total of things is that Senator Obama’s in a world of hurt over comments made by his pastor Reverend Wright.
I have to admit that I was more shocked that the pastor dropped a G-damn into the sermon than anything else. This bitch has certainly spent time in traditional black churches and that was a first for me! As to the other statements, well…I totally understand why Rev. White had to step down from the campaign given the nature of what he said.
I really don’t like it when religious figures associate tragedies with punishment or when they get all up into campaigns. It always leaves a nasty stench when religious leaders talk political policy or preach from campaign talking points.
Pause…sip water…continue.
The worst part of this latest campaign malfunction is that it does nothing to address the fact that my ass damn near had a stroke at the gas station this morning.
Blink.
Mmmhmmm, a bitch was recently diagnosed with high blood pressure (yeah, I know…no surprise there…sigh) and yes I’m addressing it and yes I’m taking it seriously. Damn it, I’m going to miss salt!
Sob.
