i mean, the constitution, the economy, our global prestige- and now even the joy of satire. yep. i mean tina fey barely has to work at all- just go into makeup. i can barely keep up these days- i mean the whole troopergate scandal- and pretty much anything that comes out of palin or mccain’s face- i mean they apparently weren’t fucking up enough on their own- they went together to the latest installment of the couric interview. luckily, i don’t have to keep up because pam- at pam’s house blend- has put together a compilation of ‘the best of’ palin and mccain. but as always, according to the national review:
“The liberal uses crises, real or manufactured, to expand the power of government at the expense of the individual and private property. He has spent, in earnest, 70 years evading the Constitution’s limits on governmental power. If conservatives don’t stand up to this, who will? If they don’t offer serious alternatives that address the current circumstances AND defend the founding principles, who will?”

The wonderful and talented Omnipotent Poobah has posted a wonderful response to all the folks going ape-shit over the New Yorker cover with Barack and Michelle Obama. He links to a blog called Ice Station Tango, who has the following cartoon by David Horsey up:
You folks that have your friggin panties in a wad need to lighten the hell up. Its not the end of the friggin world..and frankly..anyone that still believes that Obama is a damn Muslim wouldn’t vote for him if he was the last candidate on Planet Earth for the job of El Presidente of the United States. Seriously..they wouldn’t.
I don’t give a shit if McCain said it was wrong and Obama said it as well. Its there for one reason..to sell magazines and get tongues wagging! Ok, that’s two reasons….
And it did just that. All day Tuesday I saw post after post about how horrible and despicable the cover was..the left and all the Obamanistas were just coming un-fucking glued over it.
All you folks did was hype it even more. You realize that don’t you?
Freedom of Speech and freedom of the Press..two things all progressives believe in, unless of course their candidate is the butt of the joke..then all bets are off evidently.
Another thing it might have done…draw attention to all the bullshit being spread around these here internets and of course Fox Noise, about Obama and his wife and how absolutely ridiculous it all is. Because it actually got people talking about the bullshit..Did you once ever think of that angle?
Probably not..you were too fucking busy yelling and canceling your subscriptions to the New Yorker. Christ I hate this election..I really fucking do. If I don’t have a fucking stroke before November it will be a damn miracle.
Every single progressive/lefty that I know will chuckle and laugh at all the photoshops of Bush, Cheney, McCain and every other damn neocon we all hate with a passion. So wtf is so different about the New Yorker cover? Sure, its on the front of a major magazine..but its the same damn thing. A blurb of Poobies post:
The much-excoriated New Yorker cover is no more over the top than a thousand other satirical cartoons produced by the left and right. Satire, especially political satire, always goes for the gut. By its nature, it’s a knife fight of dueling typewriters and cartoonists’ pens. It’s often over the top and vicious and it’s supposed to be. If it wasn’t, it would be a wonkish, stuffy policy discussion - boring as hell and not nearly as stress-relieving as a good belly laugh.Political cartoons - especially good ones - often reveal a truth. In this case, a truth about those who cry over spilt cartoonists’ ink with claims the cartoon will bring about a sure victory for Yertle the Turtle McCain and the simultaneous collapse of Western civilization.
Now get out there and find something to really bitch about ok?

A LETTER TO THE NEW YORKER:
As a longtime reader of your magazine I am more than disgusted with the Obama cover that you have chosen. In this Historic Time in our Nation’s History instead of Honoring this time and this Person you chose to Honor the Ignorant Buffoons that slur him daily and with your Own Cover , you gave them more Grist for the Racial Mill that runs amuck daily. Please read the Definition below, and it clearly shows that you are Lampooning Senator Obama and his Wife. You have no right and are perpetuating Ignorance and Hate. Have you ever Lampooned Another Leading Presidential Candidate and his wife on your cover 160 days before such a Critical Groundbreaking Election ? The answer is NO.
IS THERE A DIFFERENCE BETWEEN SATIRE OF POLITICAL TIMES VERSUS LAMPOONING A POLITICAL FIGURE AND LEADER?
The Answer is YES, read Below…( Definition from Dictionary.com)
******************************
Definition of Satire
1. the use of irony, sarcasm, ridicule, or the like, in exposing, denouncing, or deriding vice, folly, etc.
2. a literary composition, in verse or prose, in which human folly and vice are held up to scorn, derision, or ridicule.
3. a literary genre comprising such compositions.
[Origin: 1500–10; < L satira, var. of satura medley, perh. fem. deriv. of satur sated (see saturate)]
—Synonyms 1. See irony1. 2, 3. burlesque, caricature, parody, travesty. Satire, lampoon refer to literary forms in which vices or follies are ridiculed. Satire, the general term, often emphasizes the weakness more than the weak person, and usually implies moral judgment and corrective purpose: Swift’s satire of human pettiness and bestiality. Lampoon refers to a form of satire, often political or personal, characterized by the malice or virulence of its attack: lampoons of the leading political figures.
**************************
In 1930’s Germany People that were considered to be out of the favor with the NAZI Regime were regularly lampooned in the press with similiar Cartoons, it was considered “Humor” and “Satire”. It had dangerous consequences and fed a mindset of Hate and Ignorance. It contributed to a Climate of Hate, it legitimized Fears and Descrimination by minimalizing and damaging people with Journalistic Approval, and yes, it was a part of the Propaganda that people were fed daily for years. And The People and even the Journalists became immune and passive to the damage they were rendering.
In Light of Our Own History as a Country this is an Issue that must be treated with Great Insight and Sensitivity , as well as Intellect. There is NO Satire in Racism or painting a Presidential Candidate as a terrorist. You did not satircially show the Level of ignorance in this Country, you Lampooned THE Person with False Representation. There is no humor in that.My teenage son even asked if you had a MAD Magazine Lampoon Artist render your “art” for the Cover. It is a good Question ? Did you seek out a Lampoon Artist ? If so, that would show the Intent of “Satire” was not humor, but damage.
A year ago when Don Imus uttered his racist ignorant remarks about young black college women, we heard the “HUMOR” defense claim shuttled by the MSM , softpeddling the damage and the blame. You have now joined that reprehensible journalistic cadre. The MSM this time will try to spin this as “Normal Political Games”. Our Own History has shown that Hate in this country should never be mollycoddled, it leads to the Death or Harm of Political Figures. In Such Precarious Political Times maybe you should adopt a “Do No Harm” mission.
As an Obama Supporter I have spent monthes educating people by phone calls and door to door campaigning, the Issues on your cover are real, and problematic, but not Humorous. There is actually nothing funny or humorous that our Country has been Dumbed Down by the MSM.
I will be encouraging friends and family to not buy this issue and to cancel their Subscriptions. You Crossed A Dangerous Line and harmed the image of Good Man with your arrogance. I would like to know was there any Voice of Reason and Judgement present at those Editorial Meetings about This Cover ? If you have ANY journalistic integrity you will print a Retraction or Correction and atleast an APOLOGY to Senator Obama and his wife.Shame on You.
Sincerely Disgusted,
Pissed Off In Ohio…
