Palin lies in conference call to reporters

Listen to the conference call here. During a conference call, Sarah Palin, who also refers to TrooperGate as TaserGate, stated:

Well, I’m very very pleased to be cleared of any legal wrongdoing … any hint of any kind of unethical activity there. Very pleased to be cleared of any of that.

Big ol lie, because the report (pdf) did find her guilty of abusing the power of her office for personal gain, an ethics violation. This woman evidently has no shame. Part of the transcript below from the Alaska Daily News site:

Palin: Hey, thank you so, Meg. Thank you so much. Thank you also to our local reporters up there in Alaska. Even hearing your names make me feel like I’m right there with you at home. It’s good to get to speak with you. Let me talk a little bit about the Tasergate issue if you guys would let me and, Meg, you want me to just jump right on in there?

Stapleton: Sure governor, go ahead.

Palin: OK cool.

Well, I’m very very pleased to be cleared of any legal wrongdoing … any hint of any kind of unethical activity there. Very pleased to be cleared of any of that. Todd did what anyone would have done given this state trooper’s very, very troubling behavior and his dangerous threats against our family. Todd did what I think any Alaskan would do.

And he, Todd did what the state’s Department of Law Web site tells anyone to do if they have a concern about a state trooper. And that’s you go to the commissioner and you express your concern. And Todd did what our personal detail asked him to do. Bob Cockrell early on as I was elected and was asked are there any threats against you, and Todd brought the concern as I did to Commissioner Monegan about the state trooper’s threats. He did what any - I think — any rational person would do so again, nothing to apologize there with Todd’s actions and again very pleased to be cleared of any legal wrongdoing.

Why do these people think we are all ignorant? Why does Sarah Palin have the ability to lie so easily and to reporters? She also contradicts herself, as per her usual. First says she is happy as a clam to be cleared and then bitches that the report was just partisan politics…which btw..it wasn’t.

Like her running mate, she is a delusional, lying bag o batshit folks..

H/T to TPM for the link to the audio.

in the grander scheme of things…

palin chose to accentuate her record in alaska because it’s all she has by way of experience.  but she neglected a few things:

‘Walt Monegan, the heart of the story is about a private vendetta that Palin tried to settle using her new powers as the chief executive of the state of Alaska. Thwarted in doing so, all evidence suggests she fired the public official who refused to execute her plan. Nor is it the only example. Both as mayor and governor, Palin has shown the tell-tale signs of a politician who hires cronies and fires or blackballs critics. This part of Palin’s record gets deep in the weeds.’

oh- and now, there’s this one:

‘The complaint alleges that the governor or her staff may have have improperly disclosed information from Wooten’s personnel records. The complaint alleges “criminal penalties may apply.”

John Cyr, director of the union that filed the complaint, told NBC News, “It seems obvious to us somebody has improperly accessed [Wooten's] personnel file.”

The complaint alleges that a phone recording in which Palin aide Frank Bailey pressures Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan to push out Wooten shows that his file was misused. Palin’s campaign responds saying that Palin’s husband, Todd Palin, gave Bailey the information, all of which first appeared in public divorce records.’

here’s the deal- the bending of facts and padding of resume are all political stunts easy to discredit and dispel.  the abuse of power in an executive position that has apparently gone on the entire time she has been governor of alaska- and probably as wasilla mayor as well (i didn’t bother to dig back)- combined with her desire to expand the vice presidency and step into the presidency- that troubles me.  if there is any single reason not to vote for old spice and bible spice- this is it.  his lack of moral turpitude in general with his poor attitude and temperment and also his judgment in cynically picking an ethics challenged, scandal ridden running mate who enjoys abusing her position of power- well, i don’t care how ‘real’ they seem.  if they are representative of ‘joe six pack’ and ‘hockey moms’ in america- we are all in deeper trouble than we thought.

and lest we not forget the last 8 years:

Woo Hoo-Wooten speaks!

September 5, 2008 by Dusty · 2 Comments

From TPM we finally hear from the Trooper himself- former bro-in-law Mike Wooten, video is on the sidebar. From their writeup:

Wooten doesn’t appear to have spoken publicly since his name became the focus of the investigation involving the firing of Alaska Public Safety Commissioner Walt Monegan, who claimed he was terminated by Palin after he refused to fire Wooten.

Wooten has been embroiled in a bitter dispute with the Palin family since a messy 2005 divorce from Palin’s sister Molly McCann. In 2005, complaints were filed against Wooten to the state troopers which resulted in an internal investigation of Wooten. Thirteen charges were investigated and four were ultimately found to have merit. Those included charges that he tasered his 11 year-old stepson, shot a moose out of season, drove drunk in his trooper car and threatened to “put a bullet in [the] f***ing brain] of Palin’s father.

Wooten received a 10-day suspension from the force as a result of the findings, which was shortened to 5 days after advocacy from the troopers union.

Now, the guy is no angel to be sure, but the police force only meted out a lousy 10-day suspension. Yesterday, the police union filed an ethics complaint against Sarah Palin.

This is only going to get more and more ugly for Palin and the Republicans…and I LOVE IT! ;)
